It is time, again, for a new round of nominations of nefarious news nonsense! In recognition of unprofessional press behavior, journalistic sloth, and the scribblings leading to deserved media mockery, we nominate these efforts in a variety of categories for end-of-the-year honors. To commemorate the legacy of muckraking reporting and shoe-leather investigation, we have created The Golden Remington Awards.
Our trophy honors the olden days when hard-scrabble hacks committed actual journalism and hammered out dispatches on those hefty word-smith devices. We compile some of the most fractured examples of journalism, nominating them for the un-coveted dishonor of our un-distinguished trophy, The Remmys.

Some scorching news flashed across the media landscape for…well, almost half a day. It was discovered that the number of newborns being named “Donald” has plummeted over the past few years, a supposed mortifying reality for the president. Pay no mind that this also happened during the Joe Biden years (and to say hardly anyone is naming their infant “Barack”).
When Larry-O caught wind of this nugget, it led him to do a segment on his show, and he took desperation to new levels. This departure from adopting the presidential namesake is something that was also seen in the years after Adolph Hitler. Yes…he actually went there with this non-story.

Fraser Meyers - Spiked!
The story of “Sophie of Dundee” was one that reverberated worldwide. She was the young teen girl who brandished weapons to protect her younger sister from an attack by immigrant adults. In the aftermath, Scottish authorities bizarrely charged her with wrongdoing initially, an indicator of how European nations are bowing to the immigrant incursion in their lands.
Ultimately, some sanity crept in, and the adults were charged with assaulting the girls. Meyers filed a column that turned his opinion around, as he was initially on the side of criticising “Sophie” for her actions. But this is not how you deliver a mea culpa.
He does admit to getting the story wrong, but then sidesteps responsibility for his wrong position (the police misled him, you see), despite the fact we all could hear “Sophie” as she notes on the video that they were going after her 12-year-old sister. Then Meyers goes on to impugn the character of all of those online who were backing her, claiming they did so out of confirmation bias. That is, he is slandering the character of those who were correct about the incident all along.
The rogues’ gallery of bullshitters who leapt on the case, proclaiming to know the truth from 44 seconds of out-of-context footage, gave me every reason to doubt their version of events.

We have been happy to see this outlet opening a D.C. bureau and delivering their brand of journalism. As a prime example, we have this video of an exchange with TMZ stringer Wass and Senator John Fetterman.
For reasons that make sense to the reporter, and few other people, he saw a need to ask Fetterman about his reaction to actor/comedian Larry David saying he was embarrassed to be an American because of the MMA fight staged at the White House.
It gets better when the DGF senator told him his advice was “Lighten up, Francis,” and Wass was left sputtering, because he had no grasp on the cultural reference.

Living down to the cliché that the press despises good news, we have this report out of San Francisco that should have been looked at in a positive light. But as we learn, with reporters, the auto-glass is half empty.
In some surprisingly positive news, there was a drop in automobile break-ins around the city, but we see this is not entirely good news. The drop in this crime was having an adverse effect on the auto-repair businesses thriving off the criminal activity.

Concerning the release of “Toy Story 5,” the local station focused on a significant technological development. The animators at Pixar made it possible to portray a young girl with curly hair! And this is a triumph for diversity, you understand.

"And we want the whole world to see our movies, so we want to feel like they see themselves in our films, which means we want to be able to create cultural diversity that feels authentic, and different types of hairstyles are an incredibly important part of that.
Not to be that guy, but it is tough to say this is “blazing a trail for diversity” when it was over a decade ago that we had an animated feature with a character sporting the inclusive curly hair.
