It is time for a new round of nominations of nefarious news nonsense! In recognition of unprofessional press behavior, journalistic sloth, and the scribblings leading to deserved media mockery, we nominate these efforts in a variety of categories for end-of-the-year honors. To commemorate the legacy of muckraking reporting and shoe-leather investigation, we have created The Golden Remington Awards.
Our trophy honors the olden days when hard-scrabble hacks committed actual journalism and hammered out dispatches on those hefty word-smith devices. We compile some of the most fractured examples of journalism, nominating them for the un-coveted dishonor of our un-distinguished trophy, The Remmys.
SEE: The Golden Remington Awards — (Dis)Honoring the Year In Fractured Journalism: Part 1
Here is the latest batch of nominees for consideration, gathered for the end of the calendar when we will be handing out trophies to the most un-impressive acts of journalism throughout the past year!
Distinguished Investigative Reporting
Kate Santaliz - Axios
At Axios, they came out with what they described as a “scoop” about Republican Rep. Chuck Edwards (NC-11) facing a House ethics investigation. We hope that this will be enough for your newsreading desires, because this breaking report was lacking any further details.
No allegations were specified, a nameless lawyer from the committee only said the investigation would begin, and the committee declined to comment on the decision.
But other than that, great scoop, gang!

Distinguished Explanatory Reporting
Krystal Ball - (Independent)
It has been a deeply uncomfortable paradox for many in the press that they are torn between the need to see President Trump defeated in any capacity and to throw support behind a corrupted Democrat figure like Graham Platner. This has led to journalists contorting themselves as they justify lending support to a guy with a Hitlerian death camp tattoo, a history of touting communist policy, and things like appearing on a supremacist’s podcast.
This quandary leads Ms. Ball to come forward and suggest that Platner, the Nazi sympathizer, is somehow opposed to genocide and oligarchs.
Graham Platner's flawless victory against the sitting, Schumer backed Governor of Maine shows what a new day it is in the Dem party. He survived the oppo dump of all oppo dumps and it didn't even slow him down. Voters demand candidates who oppose oligarchs and genocide.

Jonathan Martin - Politico
When Luise Lucas, the Virginia state politician, was on the receiving end of raids on offices and businesses by the FBI, a result of a DOJ investigation, the media became very reactive to the news. The accusations that this was a response to her redistricting efforts in her state were immediately dispelled by the barest investigation; the corruption investigation began years ago under Joe Biden’s administration.
Among those bothered was Jonathan Martin, as seen in his response to Bill Melugin reporting on the raids. Martin was bothered by the picture of Lucas that Melugin had used in his posts on the matter, calling it “unsubtle,” itself an unsubtle hint at racism. Again, research would have helped J-Mart avoid looking foolish, as not only was Lucas a loud proponent of Spanberger, but the picture used was the one from her bio page on the VA legislature website.
I don’t know what’s more unsubtle, the picture or the laughable suggestion that she is a close ally of Spanberger https://t.co/7Rk67UqnEM

Distinguished Cultural Commentary
Jake Tapper - CNN
After Marco Rubio earned significant amounts of praise for the way he ran a presser in the White House Briefing Room, Jake Tapper felt the need to post a follow-up video to…help his viewers decipher things.
During his time at the podium, Rubio dropped a number of quotes that were lifted from rap songs. It feels like Tapper wanted to burnish his hip cultural reference credentials by informing us which songs these lyrics derived from. Thanks for the help, Jake!
The pain in Jake Tapper‘s face is priceless-he really feels the need to let you know that Marco Rubio used hip-hop references 🤣 pic.twitter.com/gOHjK6g1Hj

Distinguished Cultural Criticism
Rolling Stone
Every so often, the music magazine revisits the clickbait content comprised of a list ranking the Best Of…
One of the most polarizing (and thus, most heavily trafficked) is its ranking of the Best Rock Guitarists. It was noted that in its most recent list, one man regarded perennially as a rock god, Eric Clapton, had tumbled significantly on the list.
The man who was always planted firmly in the top-5 was suddenly settled at #35 on the list, and the reason was explained. It seems his opinions and decisions made during COVID have rendered him an also-ran in the rock ' n ' roll rankings.
Rolling Stone moved Eric Clapton down from the top 10 of greatest guitar players of all time to 35 because he admitted to being Covid "vaccine" injured & refused to discriminate on entry to his concerts based on "vaccine" status. They even admit the reasoning in the explanation! pic.twitter.com/IMS5Z3iyxE

We just have to imagine him telling this tale to his grandkids someday.

The Silver Ricecake Platter (for Distinguished Content-free Reporting, Sponsored by Quaker)
Theodore Schleifer and Kate Conger - New York Times
In what is framed in a way that feels like an exposé, the duo from the Times covers some of the personal details of the co-founder of Google, billionaire Sergey Brin. It turns out he might have some conservative leanings.
The most damning was the revelation that his girlfriend has a photo of him in a red hat!
