There is no shortage of excitement within the Democratic Party and the media over the election wins from this past Tuesday. The results in those off-year campaigns have been cause for their needed taste of victory, but they also belied a certain reality few on the left want to acknowledge.
Recall the promises of doom and utter dismay heard in 2024? The bulk of last year saw the constant drumbeat from the Dems and the compliant press that if Donald Trump were to rise into power anew, he would deliver previously unseen examples of a totalitarian state. It would bring the death of democracy, and the vehicle for that politicide would be his bringing about the end of elections as we know them.
Now here we are a year later, and the Dems are celebrating victories in the elections that were to be curtailed. Not only is it amusing to see this amnesia take hold in an instant, but there is another undercurrent seen from this dysfunctional party; there have been calls for Trump to act out in an authoritarian fashion – FROM THE DEMOCRATS.

Nick Arama on Thursday covered the uncomfortable method that involves the so-called “nuclear option,” where the GOP would eliminate the filibuster, the tactic that is enabling the Democrat-led shutdown. This is something the Dems have lobbied to remove in the past when it stalled their efforts, but today they enthusiastically embrace what they had previously described as a racist tool held over from the days of slavery.
Today, they are squirming over this possibility. They have demanded it be removed, but need it now, yet also want to encourage it to be taken down in order to free them from this self-imposed shutdown and have them escape culpability. The president has encouraged nuking the filibuster to get the government running again, something Dems would love to see happen. As a result, as Nick showed, the Dems do not want to address the details, so they rely on the compliant press to lobby on their behalf. They would be free of the shutdown they caused, as they get to demonize the GOP for an underhanded play, and when they use the nuke option in the future, they can point fingers at their opponents for opening that door.
More audacious has been Senate leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY). As they have now imposed the longest shutdown in the nation’s history, one of the problems is that November 1 saw the end of funding for the SNAP food benefits program, something affecting the core constituents of the Democrats. Amazingly, these same Democrats have repeatedly voted down a GOP-crafted bill to supply emergency SNAP funding.
So, to save face from leveraging the hurt they are imposing on their own voting base, the Dems are desperate to spin this onto Trump. Schumer declared that President Trump has the power to go forward and force this program, as well as the WIC benefits, to be funded. Seriously – Schumer is declaring the president should override the spending responsibility that Congress wields. They want the man they call a dictator to behave in the fashion they have screamed he will enforce on the country.
For the first time in history, a president, Donald Trump, is refusing to fund SNAP during a shutdown despite the fact that he has the available funds to keep it going. They can fund SNAP from existing funds to stop American families from going hungry.
And it doesn’t end there. Sen. Liz Warren (D-MA) chirped this Monday about another of her perceived consumer affronts. YouTube TV is locked into a carriage dispute with Disney, and as is the fashion with these negotiations, it has led to the channel provider blocking content from the Disney-owned networks while new contracts are negotiated. This meant that Monday Night Football was not available to YouTube TV subscribers this week.
As a result, Senator Warren came forward to demand that President Trump take action.

Um, Liz? Do you not recall the cultural firestorm that we experienced, just a couple of months ago, involving this same broadcast company? We were told (erroneously) that President Trump had (monstrously) forced Jimmy Kimmel to be removed from the airwaves of the Disney-owned ABC Network. Now, today, you are demanding that he force Disney-owned content to be replaced on the airwaves.
It is head-spinning at times to keep the talking points straight coming from the Democratic apparatchiks. But it is probably foolhardy to do so with a party that is more driven by emotion than pragmatism. How can I expect them to follow their own narratives when they do not even hold the standard of following common sense?
