Check Out the Dems' Hypocritical Filibuster Follies, Starring Chuck Schumer

Remember when Joe Biden was in the White House and Democrats were railing against the filibuster?

It was somehow evil, a remnant of "Jim Crow." Of course, that was nonsense. It was funny in March when CNN commentator Scott Jennings referenced that and praised Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) for going along with Republicans to pass the continuing resolution (CR). Jake Tapper humorously explained that calling it that was a Democratic tactic.

But here we are with them using it to keep the government closed, despite having a clean CR and voting for it in March. Moreover, President Donald Trump is urging the Senate to scrap the filibuster.

So shouldn't the Democrats welcome that?

But when CNN's Dana Bash put the question to Democratic Rep. Jamie Raskin (MD-8) about Trump wanting to get rid of the filibuster, his answer showed what hypocrites they are.

"One of the things that he has been talking about for the last couple of days more intensely is getting rid of the filibuster. That’s actually something that you wanted to do when Joe Biden was president. Things weren't getting through the Senate. So is that an area where you agree with him?" Bash asked.

"Look, we don’t need a procedural fix at this point," Raskin answered. "We need the Republicans to recognize that there’s a healthcare crisis they’ve imposed on the country. Millions of people are facing the loss of their health insurance because of the skyrocketing premiums under Trump and the end of the ACA tax credits."

"So you wanted the filibuster to be ended when Biden was president, but now no?" Bash pressed.

He then ducked the question, saying he wasn't in the Senate.

Translation? Now that the Democrats are in the minority, and the filibuster is helpful to their party, Schumer is going to be a hypocrite.

He's also misleading about the ACA. It wasn't affordable, and the Democrats tried to cover that with subsidies, which they scheduled to end. But the premiums kept going up. It was a bad thing to begin with, and they should fix it, not just continue the problem. But that's all on the Democrats who pushed it through, not the Republicans.

Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) was more forthcoming.

Host Kaitlan Collins then asked, “And you think they won’t get rid of the filibuster, something you’ve advocated for at times?”

Sanders answered, “Well, I think, right now, we should maintain the filibuster. And I think that’s Senate Majority Leader Sen. John Thune’s (R-SD) position and the position of a number of Republicans.”

Guess who also suddenly doesn't want to talk about ending the filibuster? Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer.

"Stop the bull. Sit down and talk to us, and end the health care crisis in America," Schumer ranted. "Stop coming up with all these excuses."

But you're the ones voting no, and not talking? It's just a bizarre spin on reality. And such hypocrisy, now that they are in the minority. The guy who wanted to get rid of the filibuster now calls that "bull."

Democrats not only don't want to get rid of the filibuster, they're using it to hurt the American people and the country. On top of that, Schumer is lying about it being Trump's fault. It isn't Trump in the Senate casting those votes; it's the Democrats and Schumer.
