As I wrote, I watched Wednesday night’s LA mayoral debate between Republican Spencer Pratt, incumbent Democrat Karen Bass, and democrat socialist Nithya Raman, and I didn’t think Pratt just won the evening — I thought he creamed his two leftist opponents. Wiped the floor with them, actually.
While they both whined for more state and federal dollars so they can keep spending our money for ever more failure, he kept relentlessly pounding home the theme that simply doubling down on the old ways of doing things is just a recipe for more disaster — and the tired voters of the Golden State have seen enough of that.
Turns out, viewers agree with my assessment. Many a Republican in D.C. should take note and man up like Spencer did:

The numbers were clear: in an online snap poll following the faceoff taken by NBC4, Pratt demolished his rivals:

Viewers who weren’t that familiar with Pratt were pleasantly surprised:
"He managed to come off much more serious than a lot of people expected," [Politico’s California Playbook co-author Dustin] Gardiner said about Pratt.
NBC Los Angeles asked viewers who they thought won the debate. Pratt was the clear winner, according to our poll...
The NBCLA's debate was Pratt's debut as a serious candidate who wants to run the second largest city in the nation, and it appears to be a big success, according to Dustin Gardiner...
"I have to say that people that thought he would totally just face-plant in this --- I think they were wrong," Gardiner said. "He did better than I think a lot of people thought he might do."
He impressed many viewers with his command of the issues and his ability to severely criticize his opponents without appearing mean-spirited. He also went viral for this little funny moment, though:

Is Los Angeles finally ready for change, or will voters just keep choosing to watch their city decline? We’ll know soon enough: the primary is on June 2, and if anybody breaks 51 percent, they win. If not, the top two will head on to the general in November. In the meantime, Pratt has proved to a lot of doubters that he’s the real deal.
