Texas Democrat Rep. Jasmine Crockett has been trying to out-AOC NY Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and to out-Bern Vermont independent Sen. Bernie Sanders with her zany comments and air of lunacy lately. She’s threatened DOGE chief Elon Musk—it was disturbing enough that the attorney general of the United States warned her to “tread carefully”—and in a recent interview, she said that Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) needed to be "knocked over the head."
Your U.S. representative at work:
Crockett: I just want to say that I have never promoted violence whatsoever.

Later on Monday, though, she crossed any bounds of decency and openly mocked Lone Star State Governor Greg Abbott’s disability. Speaking at the Human Rights Campaign Los Angeles Dinner, she lowered herself to a new level of deplorable when she called him “Governor Hot Wheels,” presumably because he is confined to a wheelchair.
The HRC bills itself as an outfit promoting the idea that an “LGBTQ+ family has the freedom to live their truth without fear.” Ironic then that their speaker is an intolerant zealot:
Th Governor of Texas, Greg Abbott, has used a wheelchair since 1984 when he was tragically paralyzed in an accident. Today, the unquestioned leader of the Democratic Party, Rep. Jasmine Crockett, mocks him with the insult “Governor Hot Wheels.” https://t.co/2etrTie8LP

Greg Abbott explains on his official website why he needs a wheelchair. It’s both a tragic story and an inspiring one of overcoming adversity. Can you imagine mocking someone for this?
Many Texans ask why Governor Greg Abbott is in a wheelchair. His story is one of triumph over tragedy.
On a summer day in July 1984, Governor Greg Abbott, a 26-year-old recent law school graduate, decided to take a break from studying for the bar exam by going for a jog in a west Houston neighborhood as he’d done many times before. While out running, a large oak tree along his path cracked and fell on Governor Abbott’s back, leaving him forever paralyzed from the waist down.
After being rushed to the hospital, doctors discovered several crushed vertebrae splintering into his spinal cord, broken ribs, and damage to vital organs.
Instead of giving up, Abbott fought back:
As he lay in a hospital bed, throttled with incomprehensible pain, doctors worked to piece his vertebrae back together. They inserted two steel rods near his spine, which will remain there for the rest of his life. During his harrowing recovery process, Governor Abbott was reminded of lessons he’d learned all his life, especially the lesson of perseverance.
Through this experience, Governor Abbott learned that our lives aren’t defined by our challenges. Instead, we define our lives by how we respond to those challenges. His triumph over tragedy shows that Governor Greg Abbott doesn’t back down from challenges, but uses his lessons in perseverance to overcome them.
Crockett’s increasingly inflammatory rhetoric seems like an act to me. Although she uses plenty of slang in her speech, she went to good schools, came from a solid family, and earned a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Houston Law Center. There are videos of her talking quite a bit differently and without such a pronounced accent and the slang.
The outrageous Rep. just wants attention, and while it may serve her for a moment, voters and her fellow congress critters will soon tire of her despicable act.
Making fun of someone’s partial paralysis is a new low, even for her.
