LA Times Owner Wakes Up and Smells the Coffee, Replacing Entire Editorial Board

I remember when I first moved to sunny LA in the early ’90s, and I would read the Los Angeles Times cover to cover every morning. I loved the smell of newsprint, the feel of the pages, the stats on the sports pages, the cartoons.

But over the years, I kept noticing that their focus was never on the American people—it was always on immigrants, the porn industry, social justice, and the like. Nary a mention of the manufacturing meltdown in the Midwest, or the increasing crime in Tinseltown.

I can’t remember the exact year, but it was a long time ago when I made the call and said, “canceled.”

Since then, they’ve gotten even worse and are right up there with MSNBC and the NY Times in terms of bloviating, woke, bitter commentary—even in their hard news stories.

Owner Patrick Soon-Shiong is finally seeing the writing on the wall, evidently, as he announced he’s going to set a new tone going forward:

From Fox News reporter Bill Melugin’s post:

LA Times owner says after election results, the entire LA Times Editorial Board will be replaced - signaling they were out of touch with voters. Some of their recent opinion pieces include:
- We should publicly mock the deaths of the unvaccinated during COVID.
- Larry Elder is the “black face of white supremacy”
- Repeatedly endorsing soft on crime DA George Gascon, who just got blown out by over 20 points in his re-election bid.

It’s been a heckuva wakeup call for mainstream media this election season, as Donald Trump’s blowout victory proved without a doubt that most of them are woefully out of touch with the American people. Even before the results came in, however, there were signs that the woke coalition was crumbling:

Consequences can be brutal, and lamestream media is now finding that out the hard way. When you betray your audience and cater only to the ultra-woke crowd, most of your audience says, “Sayonara.” I no longer give a penny to the LA Times, the NY Times, or the Washington Post, and instead rely on RedState and other news outlets that actually bring me the news. We’ll just have to see whether Soon-Shiong’s promised changes—along with those promised by Washington Post owner Jeff Bezos—ever materialize; time will tell.

It would have to be a monster turnaround for me to ever come back or for them to regain the trust of the average reader. It's a good sign, though, that some of them are at least finally waking up to that fact.
