Where Is the Outrage From the 'Pink Hat' Brigade? Taliban Bans Women's VOICES in Public

The plight of the Palestinians is the left's cause du jour, but you don’t hear them speechifying about a population that is truly oppressed: Afghan women.

After Joe Biden’s hasty, disastrous withdrawal from the perenially war-torn country, we left them at the mercy of a brutal militant cult—the Taliban—who treat women worse than they treat vermin.

In their latest decree, the backward regime has proclaimed it is a violation of the law for females to show their face or any part of their body in public—or even to speak.

To call this a “Stone Age” policy is an insult to our prehistoric ancestors.

Where is the “pink hat” brigade?

Afghanistan’s Taliban rulers last Wednesday issued the country’s first set of laws to prevent vice and promote virtue. They include a requirement for a woman to conceal her face, body and voice outside the home.

The laws empower the Vice and Virtue Ministry to be at the front line of regulating personal conduct and administering punishments like warnings or arrest if its enforcers allege that Afghans have broken the laws.

While women in this country moan that they’re oppressed because they can’t get abortion on demand at the corner store, there is real oppression occurring, and Susan Sarandon seems nowhere to be found.

Roza Otunbayeva, who heads the U.N. mission in the country, said the laws extend the “already intolerable restrictions” on the rights of women and girls:

“After decades of war and in the midst of a terrible humanitarian crisis, the Afghan people deserve much better than being threatened or jailed if they happen to be late for prayers, glance at a member of the opposite sex who is not a family member, or possess a photo of a loved one,” Otunbayeva said.

Next time you hear some Lib decrying that we’re living in “The Handmaid's Tale,” remind them that they could be enjoying life under the rule of this guy:

Taliban supreme leader Hibatullah Akhundzada said last year that Afghan women are provided with a “comfortable and prosperous” life, in spite of decrees barring them from many public spaces, education and most jobs.

What’s happened to that country is a tragedy, and I’m not saying the U.S. could snap its fingers and solve things—Afghanistan is notoriously complicated and seemingly ungovernable—but Joe Biden’s feckless “leadership” certainly didn’t help matters.

The next time Oprah, Michelle O, or some pierced, tattooed college girl tells you how oppressed she is, tell her you’ve found somewhere else she could live. Then buy her a plane ticket—because no matter how often leftists promise to leave the USA, they just keep hanging around.

Good luck on that journey.
