A Ghost of Democrats Past Resurfaces As Sen. Moreno Announces Plan to Reintroduce 1993 Immigration Bill

The number of Democratic Socialist candidates winning primary elections across the nation is proof positive that it is no longer your father's Democratic Party. Their embrace of what amounts to straight-up communism should be setting off alarm bells for every American who knows exactly what these candidates are supporting. But in the wake of the Supreme Court's ruling on birthright citizenship on Tuesday, one Republican Senator has decided to go back in time and take a page from the Democratic Party of old.

On Tuesday during an appearance on The Fox News Channel, Sen. Bernie Moreno (R-OH) announced his plan to reintroduce the Immigration Stabilization Act of 1993. The legislation, which would have revoked birthright citizenship, was originally introduced by then-Democrat Senator Harry Reid (who would, of course, go on to become the Senate Majority Leader). Moreno told Fox News' Laura Ingraham:

"When I get back from recess on July 13th, [I'm going to introduce] the identical bill. What it's going to do is highlight two things — the Democrats of today are nothing like the Democrats of 1993 and, if they choose to reject a bill sponsored by their majority leader that they named an airport in Las Vegas after, then I think to my Republican colleagues have no choice. We have to recognize that these Democrats want to systematically destroy this country."

The portion of Reid's bill entitled "Basis of Citizenship Clarified" states that any children born to illegal immigrants on U.S. soil should not automatically become American citizens. At the time, Reid's office issued a press release explaining the legislation further, stating that the bill "clarifies that a person born in the United States to an alien mother who is not a lawful resident is not a U.S. citizen." This would effectively quash the idea that pregnant illegal immigrant women could come to the U.S. expressly to give birth to a child that would immediately be a U.S. citizen.

At the time, Reid's bill never got out of committee. However, Moreno says that his bill will be a "carbon copy" of Reid's bill and pressed his fellow Republicans to "eliminate the filibuster" and "get this thing done." Moreno added, "[Justice Kavanaugh] said that what we have to do is clarify what citizenship means. We can do that through an act of Congress."

You can do that through an act of Congress, but would today's Democratic Party, which is busy spiraling down the drain of communism, vote for a bill that would essentially banish what they are still convinced is their new voting bloc from the country? Not likely. As we have witnessed recently in New York and many other places around the nation, illegal immigrants are a major part of the platform of not just the establishment Democrats who are hanging on by their fingernails, but also the new Democratic Socialist candidates who have made it clear that illegal immigrants are much more important than actual American citizens.

Republicans should absolutely introduce this bill and make Democrats own their almost certain "no" votes. And American voters, if you haven't already, meet the new Democrat Party.
