Dem Senators Brush Off Grieving Father of Woman Killed by Illegal Immigrant

The general consensus as to why Democrats so vehemently defend illegal immigrants, even the ones who have committed violent crimes, is that they are importing a new voter base as more Americans leave the Democratic Party. But even as the horrific details of these crimes come to light, and the majority of Americans want illegal immigrants out of the country, elected Democrats continue to ignore the will of the people. Recently, the father of one of those crime victims told the story of how he was treated by the Democratic senators from his state.

In March, Joe Abraham testified before the Senate Judiciary Subcommittee on the Constitution. While he was there, he ran into one of his Senators, Tammy Duckworth (D-IL). He told Duckworth why he was in Washington, D.C., and told her about his daughter Katie. In January of 2025, Katie, 20 years old at the time, was in a car with four other girls. While stopped at a red light, the girls' car was rear-ended at 80 mph by an illegal immigrant who had previously been deported, was driving drunk, and operating under an alias, and also had a previous record. The impact was so brutal that the girls had to be pried from the car. Katie was killed instantly, another girl died the next day, and the three others suffered serious injuries.

Duckworth's response was not surprising. Fourteen months after the gruesome crash that took place in her state, Duckworth told Abraham she was "unaware" of Katie's story. Abraham told Duckworth he would be open to speaking with her further about the incident and how profoundly he and his family had been affected by the policies that Duckworth supports. What did Abraham receive for his request? A call from someone on Duckworth's staff offering condolences and asking for Abraham's email for what would surely be an obligatory form letter. Abraham said he "politely declined."

Abraham's other Senator, outgoing Sen. Dick Durbin (D-IL), is a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee and was even less interested in Katie Abraham than Duckworth. Not only had Durbin not acknowledged Katie or the Abraham family with so much as a statement, recognition, or any kind of outreach, but Joe Abraham said that he sat just feet away from Durbin in another Senate Judiciary Committee hearing for two hours, where again, Durbin made no mention of Katie, while other Senators did.

Abraham says of Duckworth's and Durbin's responses, "That absence is difficult to understand." For a grieving father, it is difficult to understand. But for a Democrat politician who sees their party's popularity right up there with gas station sushi, and needs that new crop of potential voters, it is about survival. If Duckworth, Durbin, or most any other Democrat do anything but acknowledge their immovable support for people who are killing and maiming Americans, they know there is a good chance their far-left voting base would be clamoring for a primary.

Along with Duckworth and Durbin, Abraham called out Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker for having supported sanctuary city and state policies for years, with no thought of the victims these policies create. Instead, Abraham says:

"Too often, those who have advanced or defended these policies are reluctant to fully grapple with their consequences. Instead, there is a tendency to reframe, to point elsewhere, or to emphasize competing narratives — rather than to pause and accept responsibility where it is due."

He added, "This is not about partisanship. It is about responsibility and responsiveness."

Joe Abraham sadly illustrated the point that he, his daughter, and the rest of his family are merely collateral damage to a Democratic Party that is desperately clinging to dangerous policies because their future potential viability depends on it. He concluded, describing the disconnect between his family and the people who are supposed to represent him, saying: "As my family continues to live with this loss, that distance has never felt more real."
