These days, it's easy to forget that the Democrats were once the party of Harry Truman, John F. Kennedy, and Zell Miller. Now, with the party taking an increasingly, well, communist bent, there is at least one sane Democrat left in Congress; that would be Senator John Fetterman (D-PA), who is now taking on the communist Mayor of New York, Zohran Mamdani. The issue? Mamdani's apparent intent to openly defy a Supreme Court ruling on illegal immigration.
Sen. John Fetterman, D-Pa., warned of a "constitutional crisis" Saturday as his fellow party members turned a blind eye to New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani's vow to defy a Supreme Court ruling reinforcing President Donald Trump's power to end Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Haitian and Syrian migrants.
Appearing on "Saturday in America," Fetterman cited prior Democratic warnings of a "constitutional crisis" under Trump, detailing his attempts to assuage fears by pointing out that the Trump administration had yet to defy court rulings.
"I haven't seen the freak-out now that the mayor of New York is now saying I'm going to defy the Supreme Court ruling," he told host Kayleigh McEnany.
He hasn't seen the freak-out for one reason: Zohran Mamdani has that ultimate "Get Out of Jail Free" card, a "D" after his name. Remember that these are Democrats; it's all about the side. Principals, not principles. Senator Fetterman would seem to be the exception. What's more, he's calling his fellow Democrats out on it.
"Many of the members in my party are not calling him [Mamdani] out... [or they are] defend[ing] him, or just say[ing] we really actually have to follow the court rulings because… that's a constitutional crisis, when you have the leader of the country's largest city [saying] we're not going to follow or honor what the Supreme Court says."
Fetterman's commentary came on the heels of the High Court handing the president two immigration-related legal victories last week. Both were tied to his administration's efforts to reduce asylum claims.
Those are the rulings that the Mayor of New York is claiming he will ignore.

Hakeem Jeffries and Chuck Schumer Built Their Own Headaches, Brick by Leftist Brick
Just for a moment, let's apply the shoe-on-the-other-foot rule and imagine the outcry from Democrats if the Republican mayor of a major city made the same statement, that they would defy a Supreme Court decision. The hue and cry from Democrats would be audible from a small asteroid orbiting the star Vega. And, for once, they would be right to raise a fuss; this isn't a sane response to a Supreme Court decision. Furthermore, the Democrats would almost certainly be joined by many Republicans, who generally aren't so fast and loose with the constitutionally defined separation of powers and the system of checks and balances.
It remains to be seen, of course, if Mayor Mamdani will actually follow through on his threats. But this mayor, a Ugandan-born Muslim communist, isn't exactly in the mainstream of American politics, even today. It's not at all clear what he might do. He seems to hold the American Constitution and our system of government in contempt, so there's no telling what he may attempt. The question then becomes: What does the Trump administration do about it?
As the midterms draw closer, though, and the 2028 presidential contest appears on the horizon, the Democrats should take a harder look at the candidates their young skulls full of mush caucus is pushing - and they should start listening to John Fetterman, the Last Sane Democrat.
Editor's Note: The Democrat Party has never been less popular as voters reject its globalist agenda.
