BREAKING: Trump Shot in the Ear During Pennsylvania Rally; Shooter Killed

In a post on X, the chairman of the House Oversight Committee wrote:

I have already contacted the Secret Service for a briefing and am also calling on Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle to appear for a hearing. The Oversight Committee will send a formal invitation soon.

He also directly addressed the "political violence" the shooting represents, denouncing it as "unamerican [sic] and unacceptable," while sending prayers to both Trump and the loved ones of the victims. One person was killed and another was injured, according to reports. The shooter was killed at the scene.

Comer also thanked the Secret Service agents who sprang into action to save the former president's life:

My prayers are with President Trump and the victims of the assassination attempt at today’s rally in Pennsylvania. I thank the brave Secret Service members who put their lives at risk to protect President Trump and for the American patriots in the audience who helped others who were hurt. Political violence in all forms is unamerican [sic] and unacceptable.

The Bluegrass state lawmaker closed with a sentence that will resonate with many at this hour: "There are many questions and Americans demand answers."

UPDATE: Cheatle has been invited to testify on Monday, July 22.
