What do you call it when you have a serious sickness and then another infection moves in because you're weakened?
A complication, that's it.
I think that's what is happening to many Americans and others with Trump Derangement Syndrome. They're unable to think straight because their minds are going sideways over an extraordinary man who has shaken up American politics forever.
The complication that's emerged is Flag Hate, actually hating the Stars and Stripes. So much so that many have sought counseling for the anger and nausea they feel about it.
I know. It is bizarre because the country, freedom, and values represented by Old Glory are the very ones that allow these people to act upon their hate without fear of a terminal visit to a gulag. The only countermeasure to these types of people really is the social opprobrium dished out by people who know what patriotism is.
Remember Colin Kaepernick, the failed NFL quarterback who refused to stand for the National Anthem because he knew racism was behind his failures? That sad gesture by a rich guy living a free life became a thing. Other players began kneeling, too.
You don't see that stunt anymore (or Kaepernick either, for that matter) because, over time, society's distaste for defiance in the face of patriotism overwhelmed and washed it away.
What set these flag-hating folks off recently was the Olympic successes of American athletes in Italy, especially the hockey teams and most especially the men's hockey team. It won an Olympic Gold Medal for the first time in 46 years and the first time ever on foreign soil.
The players, all professionals who've come up through the ranks of youth, juniors, and amateurs, immediately draped themselves in the American flag. And then, in an ultimate outrage that set off progressives, the player who scored the winning goal in overtime gushed on global television about the team doing it for the country and being so proud to be American.
Can you imagine uttering such an embarrassing thing publicly in 2026? Huffington Post, Vox, and other outlets couldn't.
I found the scene powerfully moving, as did millions of other Americans experiencing the same rush of pride. But according to those progressive media, the same scene drove others to seek grief counseling.

Perhaps you recall 2010 when a widespread revulsion over the arrogance of Barack Obama and Nancy Pelosi prompted a huge turnout, an historic wipe-out of more than five dozen Democrat House seats, and about 1,000 elected Democrats and state and local levels.
We need that kind of turnout on Nov. 3. I've been struck and disappointed by the Casual Whatever attitude of too many conservative voters during recent midterm elections. The results in Congress and state races have not been good for our side.
So, when I noticed an emerging wave of Democrats vowing revenge and retribution on any and all Trump supporters when they "take back" Washington control, I knew I had to write about it. This week's Sunday column was the result.
It's not just control of policies and legislation through chamber majorities. It would be more manufactured lawfare trials and revenge prosecutions and, let's be honest, more attempted impeachments of Donald Trump or any GOP commander in chief.
The opening leader of this tactic to motivate Democrat voters is Susan Rice, former senior aide to Barack Obama and Joe Biden. You'll remember her as the senior liar and obfuscator on the Benghazi tragedy and scandal.
On every Sunday television news show back in 2012, she claimed that the sacking of the U.S. consulate in Benghazi and the murder of four loyal Americans was the direct result of an obscure anti-Muslim video on YouTube. The Obama people even arrested the filmmaker briefly to make their point.
That means Rice tried to sell that lie five times to millions of Americans during one morning.
Of course, there were no consequences for her for doing that. No consequences for Secretary of State Hillary Clinton for inexplicably reducing the mission's security shortly before that deadly event. No consequences for Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta for not attempting any support or rescue, and not being ready to do so after a day full of violent outbreaks across the entire region.
And, naturally, no consequences for Commander in Chief Obama for going AWOL for the entire 16 hours of the lethal crisis. My blood still boils.
Speaking of inexplicable outrages, the most recent audio commentary detailed not only the enduring but thriving implementation of Democrat Woke policies in Maryland.
There, in deep-blue Prince George's County, the Democrat-controlled local government is evicting an entire complex of condominium-apartment owners because the government won't do anything about the drugs, gangs, prostitution, and lawlessness spreading from a nearby encampment of homeless.
You have to read the post here to fully understand the sheer outrage of a government turning hundreds of taxpayers into homeless because the government refuses to do anything about what they call "the unhoused."
