Geez louise.

Los Angeles County has banned travel to Alabama for a year in response to the red state’s abortion law (see more uproar over the legislation here and here).

Post-HB 314, LA’s making a sour face. County Supervisor Hilda Solis called it an “attack on reproductive rights and economic justice.”

Okay. But why in the world are the Democrats in Los Angeles trying to put themselves into the politics of another state? Are they expecting their protest to change Alabama’s mind? One thing I know about the Heart of Dixie is that it couldn’t give less of a flip what Hollywood believes, and the same goes for anyone in power in the City of Angels.

Here’s Hilda’s explanation:

“We must stand in solidarity and in opposition against extremist and unconstitutional laws that put the health and wellbeing of families at risk. The constitutional and human right to a safe and legal abortion is part of the very fabric of the United States. As such, Los Angeles County will stand against all attempts to dismantle the protections afforded by Roe v. Wade and the U.S. Constitution.”

If they’re against extremist laws, how’s their stance against New York (here and here). Also, what’s the position toward San Francisco (here)? On top of that, LA may wanna check out a little bit o’ the ol’ introspection (here).

The ban prevents any county employee from traveling to Alabama the Beautiful on official business. Exceptions’ll be made for emergency response training or other trips required by law.

Now here’s where it gets really dumb, as reported by Al.com:

LA County officials are also sending a letter to Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey and Legislative leaders calling for the measure’s immediate repeal. Similar letters will be sent to officials in Arkansas, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, Missouri, Ohio, and Utah, all states considering their own restrictive abortion laws.

LA’s got just a smidge too high an opinion of itself.

Dear Los Angeles:

Like Randy Newman said, I love you. You’re a wonderland. But autonomous state governments don’t care about your opinion. About, literally, anything. Ever. At all. And people in Alabama, incidentally, are way tougher than you. You worry about pronouns and chew on kale. They wear hip holsters and eat stuff they saw in the woods.
