New: Union Poseur Gustavo Gordillo Busted on $1.4 Million Non-Union Renovations

The one constant among advocates for what's now being called "democratic socialism" is their overweening hypocrisy. It's always been that way in socialist systems, from Karl Marx onward: the few at the top live lives of comfort and luxury, while the people they claim to champion stand in line for the monthly potato ration. Today's "democratic socialists" (commies) are no different. Indeed, the one thing they all seem to have in common is that they were born into and were raised in a life of wealth and privilege.

Case in point: New York City's odious little commie, Gustavo Gordillo, a nepo-baby whose parents bought him his $1.5 million Brooklyn home. Nepo-baby Gordillo claims to be a huge champion of labor unions. Well, he's having a complete renovation of that Brooklyn home Mommy and Daddy bought him, to the tune of $1.4 million - and guess how many union workers he has hired for this.

You guessed it. None. Not one. An exclusive in the New York Post has broken that story wide open.

Working-class cosplaying Democratic Socialists of America leader Gustavo Gordillo hasn’t used a single union worker for renovations on his $1.5 million nepo-home in Brooklyn — as the city issued a stop-work order Friday on the project, The Post has learned.

A city Department of Buildings inspector slapped the order — which dinged Gordillo for not getting proper permits for interior and facade work — on the two-story, nearly 2,000-square-foot Bed-Stuy home’s door.

The order halts the roughly $1.4 million gut renovation that many of Gordillo’s more-hardscrabble neighbors along gentrifying Decatur Street viewed with a mix of awe and apprehension.

“I think it’s really counter everything that he’s supposed to represent,” said Kristen Singleton-Ferrari, 59, a neighbor.

Ya think?

It gets better. My colleague Ben Smith, on Wednesday, brought us the story of Gordillo's finger-wagging at NYC landlords, from the very steps of the $1.5 million home Mommy and Daddy bought him. Ben notes:

Gustavo Gordillo has opinions about what landlords should be allowed to earn. The New York City DSA co-chair also has a $1,457,000 Bed-Stuy rowhouse to live in, courtesy of his millionaire parents and the LLC they used to buy it.

But wait! There's more! Turns out that this child of wealth and privilege, this odious little commie, is also a deadbeat tenant:

Embattled New York City Democratic Socialists of America Co-Chair Gustavo Gordillo is a deadbeat tenant facing eviction after stiffing his landlord out of months of rent, The Post has learned.

Gordillo, 38, the privileged son of a Florida construction magnate, is being sued in Brooklyn housing court after skipping out on three rent payments of $2,500 for a Crown Heights apartment he leased while the $1.5 million townhouse gifted to him by his rich daddy underwent renovations, according to court filings.

The Yale University-educated sculptor moved into the “stunning” one-bedroom pad on Eastern Parkway in May 2025, according to court records.

From day one, he treated the rent bill like a mere suggestion, dodging payments for months at a time only to cough up one lump sum after he’d racked up three months of unpaid rent, according to the account statement included in the court case.

This would be funny if it weren't so pathetic.

In summary, we have a wealthy, self-styled "sculptor" (sculpting what? Bad checks?) stiffing his landlords, hiring non-union laborers to work on his house while piously mouthing support for labor unions, and shouting about the evils of capitalism from the steps of a $1.5 million home his wealthy Mommy and Daddy bought for him. That's not just any ordinary kind of hypocrisy, here. This is nuclear-level, 1.5 megaton hypocrisy.

In the late 1940s, there were a lot of Hollywood types and American liberals flirting with communism. Bill Mauldin, the cartoonist of World War II, Stars & Stripes fame, commented that there was something very ironic about a leather-bound copy of Marx's Das Kapital lying on polished tile at the side of a gold-fixtured pool, occasionally splashed with a few drops of scented water. Mauldin wasn't wrong. But that always seems to be how it works. The people who shout the loudest about communism are the people who can afford it; or they think they can, until the revolution actually comes.

Editor's Note: The Democrat Party has been infected by socialism, and it's spreading FAST. Democrats are claiming there's nothing to worry about, but we know the truth.
