This Is the Way: Watch CA Republican Steve Hilton's World-Class Campaign Ad

Once in a while, you see a campaign ad that just blows you away. There aren't many of those; despite the best efforts of the campaigns, too many political ads are dry, humorless and, frankly, boring. President Reagan's Morning in America ads were pretty good, as were some of President Trump's campaign ads.

Spencer Pratt, in his run for mayor of Los Angeles, had some great, apparently AI-generated ads: Powerful, snappy, fun. Now gubernatorial Republican hopeful Steve Hilton has taken that team on and put them to work: This is the first example.

There's some mighty powerful imagery in that. The opening of the ad introduces the Machine, a huge, post-apocalypse-looking monster. Steve Hilton, or at least an AI facsimile of Steve Hilton, does battle with the Machine before the camera turns to actual footage of a sprawling homeless encampment and sky-high gas prices. The scene shifts to Gavin Newsom and Kamala Harris, seated at a table with fat, bulbous characters wearing jackets carrying the labels "Chamber of Commerce," "Non Profits," "Government Unions" and so on. Newsom smarmily says about the governorship, "I'd do it forever, but it's my turn to be president," which elicits a shocked gasp from the Kamala Harris figure.

Then, the machine selects the candidate: Xavier Becerra. Newsom asks, "The Biden guy? Who lost all those kids?" Kamala says, "It can't be right. Run it again." Again, the answer comes up: Becerra. And again. And again. Finally, the machine's robot minions bring Xavier Becerra into the room, where Newsom tells him, "As long as you submit to the machine, you have to do nothing." 

Becerra grins. "Nothing?" he says. "I can do that."

There is a series of AI-generated battles between the Democrats and the Machine, with Steve Hilton leading the ordinary people of California against the Machine. In the end, Hilton faces the Machine in its final, giant robot form, holding the flag of California in his hand. Kamala asks, "Can we get Swalwell back?"

CA Gubernatorial Hopeful Xavier Becerra Has Jaw-Dropping Take on Illegal Alien Street Vendors

Boy, howdy, I can tell you, if you're a Republican running for office, any office, find out who is making these campaign ads and hire them. This is a great ad: Flashy, entertaining, with overtones of a people's hero contending against a massive, dystopian mechanical monster. It's inspiring, and it will fire people up.

Steve Hilton still has an uphill battle to win as governor of California. The Democrats still seem to have a hammerlock on the state, and any election-integrity measures currently in the works probably won't yet be in place. The Democrats will work hard to keep the governor's office in Democratic hands, the hands of the hapless Xavier Becerra, in fact, and that's for sure and for certain. But while the Democrats may work hard, it looks like Steve Hilton is working harder - and smarter.
