Some things are so fundamentally unfair, so egregiously wrong, that any rational person would think that they would be universally proscribed. Allowing boys to compete on girls' sports teams and in girls' competitions is one of those things. There are reasons we separate athletes by sex; boys and men have significant advantages over girls and women in almost every measurable aspect of athletic performance. These are facts.
And yet here we are, where in California, a boy, one AB Hernandez, has closed out his high school athletic career by smashing two state titles in Clovis, California - competing against girls. And here's the eyebrow-raiser: The community is reportedly "divided" over this, when in any sane world, they would be universally against it.
A man standing in line for the ice cream stand nudged his friend when AB Hernandez walked by.
"Hey, that's AB Hernandez," he whispered to his friend on top of the ramparts at Veteran's Memorial Stadium in Clovis, California.
"I don't know who that is," the friend responded, before the other man filled him in.
Hernandez was in between qualifying for events in the final round of the state championships in high jump, long jump and triple jump on Friday.
Whispers, rumors and attention had become the norm for the well-known transgender athlete. Hernandez summoned national media hurricanes to two high school track seasons and a volleyball season in the span of one year.
Whispers, rumors and attention, yes; they have become the norm, because AB Hernandez is not a girl. He's a boy. His presence on the girls' competition breaks every standard of fair play.
But wait! There's more!
Daisy Gardner, a local pro-LGBTQ activist says she has known Hernandez and the athlete's mother Nereyda Hernandez since 2024, when news about the trans athlete's identity and participation in girls' sports began to garner local attention.
"I think the two of them have walked through fire. I don't know anyone else who's a high school kid who has been targeted by President Trump... I have seen death threats and threats, wishing physical injury upon AB," Gardner told Fox News Digital.
Look, nobody should be making threats against AB Hernandez, or wishing harm upon him. But that doesn't mean we can't oppose his presence in girls' athletics.

But this issue has gone on well past the point of ridiculousness.
This isn't just a thing that's wrong in individual cases. This is a thing that is wrong in essence. Boys and men have substantial physical advantages over girls and women: Boys and men are faster, stronger, have greater endurance, and more tolerance for injury. Boys and men have more cardiovascular capacity, more muscle mass as a percentage of body weight, more fast-twitch muscle fibers, and heavier and stronger bones. These are facts. These differences are present from conception. This is also a fact.
AB Hernandez is a boy. He should never have been allowed to compete as a girl. Why? Because he's not a girl. He can claim to "identify" as a girl; he can wear girls' clothes, he can dance a merengue in a cocktail dress on the sidewalk for all anyone cares, but he should not ever have been allowed to compete in a girls' athletic event.
AB Hernandez has now closed out his high school athletic career with two state titles that should have gone to girls. He is, reportedly, "unclear" on his college plans, where we might note that National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) rules at present would preclude him from competing against young women. That's how it should be. That's how it should have been in his high school career. And yet, Democrats across the country support this lunacy.
Primary elections are underway across the country. The midterms are coming in November. If you need yet another reason to get to the polls, here's a good one.
