In the latest installment of "futile and stupid gestures on the Democrats' part," Democrat Representative Yassamin Ansari (AZ-03) has filed articles of impeachment against, no, not President Trump, but against Secretary of War Pete Hegseth.
House Democrats on Wednesday filed articles of impeachment against War Secretary Pete Hegseth.
The articles of impeachment include five separate charges related to the Signal chat leak last year, the war in Iran, and alleged “abuse of power.”
Democrat Rep. Yassamin Ansari (AZ-03), who filed the articles, released a video on X announcing the move. “What we have seen out of the Trump administration over this weekend has been absolutely horrifying and gut-wrenching,” she said. “The threats against Iranian civilian infrastructure and the entire country of Iran are unreal and apocalyptic.”
This seems to be the Democrats' go-to now: Impeachment. It's a component of the famed "Otter Gambit," a reference to the famous (and hilarious) old movie Animal House, in which one of the main characters, nicknamed Otter, played by Tim Matheson, fires up his fraternity with the shouted words, "This situation calls for a really futile and stupid gesture be done on somebody's part."
Rep. Ansari has stepped in to cosplay as John Belushi, seemingly claiming, "And we're just the guys to do it." And here's where she really lays into the whole "futile and stupid gesture" part of this. Here, watch:

Here's the thing: This is going nowhere fast, and Rep. Ansari knows it. She doesn't care. She's not serious about impeaching Pete Hegseth, any more than she is about 25th Amendment proceedings against President Trump - yes, she's pushing that, too:

Rep. Ansari, let's face it, is not a serious person. Sensible people won't take her seriously, and that's for sure and for certain. But she is serious about one thing: Throwing red meat to the Democratic Party's slavering screwball base.

One would have to be crazier than even a leftist Democrat to think that any articles of impeachment against the Secretary of War would end up anywhere but round-filed in the current Republican House of Representatives. Oh, now, if Democrats somehow gain control of the House in this year's midterms, just watch, because it will be a veritable Impeach-a-Palooza that will make President Trump's first term look like a warming-up exercise; not only the president, but also most of the Cabinet will be subjected to this, and maybe a Supreme Court justice or two into the bargain. So in that sense, Rep. Ansari may be taking on a sort of dress rehearsal.
For now, though, this effort has one purpose and one purpose only: Allowing Rep. Ansari to face her far-left base, and tell them, "Look, I tried to impeach Pete Hegseth, and I tried to get President Trump removed, because Orange Man Bad." She knows the far left will applaud her effort like a gang of trained seals, and she also knows this will motivate them to vote for her in November.
That's what this is about. That's all this is about.
