Teachers' Unions Now Blowing $2M on Protest Training While Kids Can't Read

The National Education Association, the primary union for teachers and school workers in the country, has done more harm to education in this nation than any other single entity or organization. They are anti-American, anti-capitalist, pro-illegal-immigration - they support everything sensible Americans oppose, and their members have our kids, every day.

Now, we learn that the NEA has given almost two million dollars to a far-left group that organizes protests and spreads propaganda on all manner of socialist ideology

An education group has uncovered that teacher’s union the National Education Association has given nearly two million dollars in donations since 2020 to an organization that trains for May Day school “walk-in” protests, as well as demands agendas such as “tax the rich” and the removal of ICE.

Defending Education – the organization that released the report – director of research Rhyen Staley told The Center Square that “teachers unions turning children into far-left political pawns is a betrayal of the public trust.”

We've known about this for some time. It was going on while our kids were in school, and our youngest turns 30 in a few weeks. My wife and I spent a lot of time with extra books and other reading materials, filling in the gaps and correcting the horse squeeze that our kids were fed every day. We probably just should have homeschooled them, but hindsight is always 20-20, eh?

The problem with the teachers' unions, like so many other labor and social movements, is that the conditions they were formed to counter are gone, but they can't just admit victory, fold up their tents and go home. No, now they have to pump out far-left horse squeeze, while failing to even attempt to educate our kids.

“Gone are the days of these public sector unions simply fighting for better wages, insurance, and working conditions,” Staley said. “They are leftwing political activist organizations who benefit fiscally from taxpayer dollars.”

Staley made the point that “roughly 70% of American students are not proficient in reading and math, yet the teachers unions are using their influence and positions of power and authority to train children to protest and agitate for far-left causes.”

But hey, they can organize a May Day protest.

Groomed by the System: How a Colorado School Betrayed a Family's Trust

Our schools are failing. They had one job: Producing young adults with marketable skills. These skills should include, of course, basic literacy, a grounding in mathematics, and how about some civics and basic American history, so they know how their country works? But that's not what the National Education Association wants. By their donations shall ye know them, and the NEA is giving money to a group that is, essentially, espousing communism.

How do we fix this? Well, here's what I'd like to do: Privatize all of it. No more government-run schools. No more taxes going to education. No more federal grants or federally guaranteed loans for higher education, either. Divorce education from the government entirely. That would fix a lot of it by placing the responsibility for a kid's education where it belongs, with the parents. Will some parents choose poorly? Yes. Will their kids suck up any taxpayer dollars as a consequence? Nope. They made that bed; they get to lie in it.

Remember that thing we used to call responsibility?

That won't happen, of course, but one thing we might be able to do is shutter the teacher's unions. Public-sector unions are anathema anyway; they negotiate contracts with the very pols whose campaigns they help fund. It's a fundamental conflict of interest, an incestuous system that needs to be done away with.

Then, there's this:

The National Education Association has not yet responded to The Center Square’s request for comment.

You don't say.
