There are geopolitical realities in today's world, and one of these realities is that China cannot be considered a friend and ally of the United States. They are, at best, a rival; at worst, an adversary.
However, China is still, much as we may wish otherwise, a major trade partner of the United States. On Wednesday, President Trump took to his Truth Social account to laud a conversation he had with China's President Xi Jinping, the topic reportedly being trade deals, and his tone was very optimistic.

President Trump, a man not enamored of paragraph breaks, writes:
I have just completed an excellent telephone conversation with President Xi, of China. It was a long and thorough call, where many important subjects were discussed, including Trade, Military, the April trip that I will be making to China (which I very much look forward to!), Taiwan, the War between Russia/Ukraine, the current situation with Iran, the purchase of Oil and Gas by China from the United States, the consideration by China of the purchase of additional Agricultural products including lifting the Soybean count to 20 Million Tons for the current season (They have committed to 25 Million Tons for next season!), Airplane engine deliveries, and numerous other subjects, all very positive! The relationship with China, and my personal relationship with President Xi, is an extremely good one, and we both realize how important it is to keep it that way. I believe that there will be many positive results achieved over the next three years of my Presidency having to do with President Xi, and the People’s Republic of China! PRESIDENT DONALD J. TRUMP
It would be very interesting to hear what President Xi thought of the conversation, but China's not in the habit of sharing information like that. A few high points:
Agricultural products sold to China, that's a positive thing; if nothing else, soybeans can't be weaponized. Buying oil and gas from the United States? I'll wait to see details on that. The problem here is that there are sources of natural gas and oil much closer, namely, Russia and Iran - and you can bet that both countries will be on the horn to Beijing pretty quickly, offering to undercut the USA on any proposed gas and oil sales.
I'm not certain about selling aircraft parts to China, either.
President Trump, we might note, always takes an optimistic tone when things are going his way - whether in this case he is genuinely encouraged or he's engaging in some Art of the Deal tactics remains to be seen.
Then again, there's this; check out some of RedState's own Jennifer Van Laar's reporting on the frightening rise of illegal Chinese biolabs, which, if that notion doesn't scare the socks off you, it should:

Setting up illegal biological laboratories in another country isn't generally considered a friendly move. President Trump doesn't mention these labs in his post, but one has to wonder if that topic won't come up in the president's upcoming trip to China. Were I in the president's shoes, that's something I'd want to bring up and right away.
