Normally, one would think that the only "housing" dead people would need would be a coffin or perhaps an urn. But under the Biden administration, the deceased, as well as illegal immigrants, were getting housing subsidies from the federal government. Imagine that.
Oh, and guess where many of the "questionable" funds were going?
A report by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) recently revealed billions in taxpayer funds that went to "questionable" rental assistance recipients under former President Joe Biden.
The recipients included approximately 30,000 deceased tenants and thousands of potential non-citizens, according to a copy of HUD's "Agency Financial Report" for fiscal year 2025 obtained by the New York Post.
HUD officials told the Post that a "large concentration" of the funds went to New York, California and Washington, D.C., with deceased recipients getting funds in all 50 states.
So, while a large concentration went to two of the biggest, bluest states, in all candor, we note that this is a problem in every state. Or, it was, while Joe Biden (or whoever was really running the show) was sitting in the Oval Office.
The department conducted an automation that compared a U.S. Treasury database to HUD's records. The process uncovered 30,054 deceased tenants who were either actively enrolled in rental assistance programs or had received assistance after they passed, according to HUD's report. The department found the possibly problematic payments through its own internal financial review and analytics, according to the report.

Think about this: that's over 30,000 dead people who were receiving housing subsidies. It's a safe bet that most of them were eligible people who died, and through either fraud or incompetence, they remained on the program after assuming room temperature. If the former, then whoever their next of kin/executor was would seem to be on the hook for fraud. If the latter, then someone in the HUD office managing these programs needs to be unceremoniously placed out on the street with no severance package, no gold watch, just their coffee cup and their collection of autographed cocktail napkins.
Earlier in December, we reported these shenanigans had been uncovered in Colorado.

In Colorado, we learned that the dead, as well as other ineligible persons, were receiving these funds.
221 dead people, out of almost 3,000 people in Colorado who were improperly receiving benefits from HUD.
The Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) is investigating whether Colorado providers helped nearly 3,000 people swindle taxpayer money from Uncle Sam, The Post has learned.
The investigation comes after an internal HUD audit found that benefits were granted to 221 dead people, while another 87 were otherwise ineligible.
HUD Secretary Scott Turner has gone on the record to state that there will be consequences for all this:
"A massive abuse of taxpayer dollars not only occurred under President Biden’s watch, but was effectively incentivized by his administration’s failure to implement strong financial controls resulting in billions worth of potential improper payments," HUD Secretary Scott Turner said in a statement provided to the Post.
"HUD will continue investigating the shocking results and will take appropriate action to hold bad actors accountable," he said. "Additionally, the Department is advancing efforts made under President Trump’s first administration to strengthen program integrity and ensure taxpayer-funded assistance serves the vulnerable communities it was intended for."
Good. Let's see some people perp-walked.
Better yet, let's see these programs defunded and eliminated. The United States has been running "affordable housing" schemes for decades now, pushed mostly by Democrats, and yet somehow housing keeps growing more and more expensive. It's worse in the major cities, but it's happening everywhere.
The fix? Stop pouring money into the problem. Deregulate, reform zoning laws, fix the actual problem: Supply. It might actually have an effect, while removing some obvious opportunities for fraud.
