Has New York's Mayor-elect, the "Democratic Socialist" (Communist) Zohran Mamdani, found a cynical way to appease his Islamic constituency while also making nicey-nice with his "woke" supporters? Because his latest loony-left policy proposal sure makes it look like he's trying to do just that. Townhall's Amy Curtis has details:
This is such a good point that this writer is mad she didn't connect the dots first. She has, however, written several articles about Zohran Mamdani and his troubling anti-gay ties. This includes a relationship with Ugandan politician Rebecca Kadaga, who supported legislation that would imprison gays for life; Imam Siraj Wahhaj, who called gays the "disease of society" and spoke with violent anti-gay rhetoric; and Mamdani's own father, who waged a war against a gay Ugandan college professor.
Mamdani has a pro-trans agenda and vows that Americans, including children, will be able to come to New York City for "gender-affirming care" on the taxpayer's dime.
Mamdani: “We’re going to provide $65 million of funding for gender-affirming care.”

He says he’ll fund this by raising taxes on the wealthiest New Yorkers and corporations.

Here's the onion:
But writer Ben Appel, who also happens to be gay, made a point that Mamdani's plan echoes the anti-gay policies of totalitarian theocracies like Iran.

So, is Zohran Mamdani, on this issue, playing both sides against the middle? Is he trying to thread the needle between keeping his support from people like Rebecca Kadaga and Imam Siraj Wahhaj, along with New York's woke left? Or is he deliberately trying to erase young gay people?
I'm inclined to think the latter. Here's why, and I'm going to tell you.
First: Zohran Mamdani is many things, but stupid isn't one of them. Ignorant, yes, to the nth degree; poorly informed and deeply indoctrinated, also yes. But he's not stupid. He seems to have hit on a way to appease two constituencies that couldn't be more different.
Second: Mamdani owes the Islamic community. Big time. His campaign was heavily funded by the Council on American-Islamic Relations, or CAIR. They spent a lot of money getting this guy into office, and you have to wonder why; it seems a bit of a stretch to think that they would support a guy who was as pro-gay and pro-transgender as Zohran Mamdani - unless they saw this possibility coming.
Third: This is the Iran model. Yes, really. In Iran, you can be executed for being gay, but you can be diagnosed with "gender-identity disorder" and altered surgically. Some may point out that being gay in Iran is a crime, whereas being transgender is seen as a medical condition, but Iran discriminates harshly against transgender people, even after alteration. Could Mayor-elect Mamdani's more radical Islamic supporters be hoping for just such a thing in New York?
And, once again, he's talking about altering children. People who cannot sign a contract, join the military, get a tattoo, or buy a bottle of booze.
New York may well be about to become a witch's brew of competing and fundamentally opposed ideologies. Things in the Big Apple, day by day, look more and more like they are about to get very interesting indeed.
