Just when you think the incoming mayorship of "democratic socialist" (let's be real, he's a communist) Zohran Mamdani couldn't get any dumber, the Mayor-elect lowers the bar even further. In the latest demonstration of turbocharged stupidity, he has appointed to his staff a long-time key adviser who was the proponent of having social workers, not cops, respond to some "non-violent" 911 calls.
This has to be one of the dumbest ideas since Napoleon's invasion of Russia.
Zohran Mamdani's latest hire to his incoming staff includes the mayor-elect's long-time chief advisor, who has been dubbed the "chief architect" of Mamdani's campaign proposal to have social workers respond to certain non-violent 911 calls in New York City.
The heavily criticized proposal was drummed up by the Ivy League-educated, California-native Elle Bisgaard-Church, a relative political newcomer affiliated with the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA). Bisgaard-Church was tapped by Mamdani Monday to once again be his chief adviser while running the helm at New York City's City Hall after serving in the same post during his campaign and during his state assembly days.
The proposal, we might note, was "heavily criticized" because it's stupid. It was proposed by a typically clueless, Ivy League-educated leftist with little or no idea who things work at the street level, and who predicably puts ideology over public safety.
Bisgaard-Church has been credited with being pivotal to getting Mamdani's message to voters and campaign staff dub her the "chief architect" behind Mamdani's Department of Community Safety proposal, according to CBS News.
When developing the Department of Community Safety proposal, which aims to replace police officers with mental health professionals to deal with non-life-threatening emergencies with a focus on subway stations, Bisgaard-Church reportedly spoke to mental health experts, public safety officials from other cities and former New York City Police Department (NYPD) Chief of Department Rodney Harrison. The new department will cost approximately $1.1 billion, according to a campaign proposal on Mamadani's website.
Prediction: This will be a disaster for New York if implemented as described.

I'll offer a few more predictions:
- An en masse departure of the NYPD. That's liable to happen regardless of this plan. The NYPD is already doubtless looking at Mamdani and thinking that he makes Bill de Blasio, on whom the NYPD literally and figuratively turned their backs, to look to be downright affectionate to the city's cops by comparison. The cops who can find work elsewhere, somewhere where their hands won't be tied and their efforts appreciated, will do so. The ones that have no other options will remain, and for the most part, they won't be the best of the best.
- Because of the above, crime in the Big Apple will spike. And why not? Between Mamdani's disregard for law enforcement and the likely direction of the city's justice system under his administration, the goblins will have no reason to behave themselves.
- Some social workers, responding to volatile domestic situations they are neither trained nor prepared for, are going to be hurt or killed.
I have a pretty good vocabulary, and I'm fast running out of words to describe just how dumb every stated plan and objective Zohran Mamdani has stated is going to be in practice. The left has always favored ideology over results, of course, but Zohran Mamdani is shoving stupid into high gear in New York.
It's not going to be a good four years for New York. Sadly, given the exodus from the Big Apple of the productive, who tend to be more politically moderate, it's likely to be eight years. I wouldn't bet a plugged nickel on New York's future right now.
