The Schumer Shutdown is still in full sway, and we don't see too many signs on the horizon of this thing ending. But while that issue is still being wrangled on the floor of the Senate, President Trump isn't just sitting back and watching. On Saturday, he took to his Truth Social platform to make an interesting recommendation to the Senate about Obamacare coverage.

The president's post reads in full:
I am recommending to Senate Republicans that the Hundreds of Billions of Dollars currently being sent to money sucking Insurance Companies in order to save the bad Healthcare provided by ObamaCare, BE SENT DIRECTLY TO THE PEOPLE SO THAT THEY CAN PURCHASE THEIR OWN, MUCH BETTER, HEALTHCARE, and have money left over. In other words, take from the BIG, BAD Insurance Companies, give it to the people, and terminate, per Dollar spent, the worst Healthcare anywhere in the World, ObamaCare. Unrelated, we must still terminate the Filibuster!
At least one member of Congress, Representative Chip Roy (R-TX) was quick to support the move.
Thank you @realDonaldTrump. Hard-working American families are getting crushed while Democrats enrich insurance companies. The GOP has solutions to empower patients and doctors and drive down prices, but Democrats are blocking us. Why? For political power. #SchumerShutdown pic.twitter.com/Fz770ZlaYH

President Trump has been a critic of the Obamacare program since he entered politics, and he has a lot of company among Republicans, while Democrats usually claim that Obamacare is the greatest thing since oxygen. Right now, Congress is deadlocked on Obamacare funding, like so many things, thanks to the Schumer Shutdown. But that isn't stopping Senator Chuck Schumer (D-NY) from advocating to bail out Obamacare with federal funds.
House Speaker Mike Johnson on Thursday told reporters Thursday that he would not commit to holding a vote on extending COVID-19 pandemic-era enhanced Obamacare subsidies, which are set to expire at the end of this year without congressional action.
Senate Majority Leader John Thune, R-S.D., had been floating a vote on such an extension in exchange for Democrats voting to end the shutdown.
The issue of enhanced Obamacare subsidies has been a matter of debate within the GOP, with some Republicans in more moderate districts calling for at least a year-long extension to give lawmakers time to create a new healthcare deal in its place.
This disconnecting of the payments directly to insurance companies is an idea worth taking up, though, even after the shutdown. It would be preferable to just repeal Obamacare, and no, not "repeal and replace," just repeal. It would be better still for the federal government to get the heck out of health-care financing altogether, as it is a function that Washington has zero constitutional authority to touch. But that ship would seem to have sailed; this move, funding citizens directly in what looks a lot like a healthcare voucher system, would at least be a step in the right direction.

Insurance Industry Donations to Democrats (2023–2024 Cycle)

I'm not saying that Senator Schumer and his Democrat colleagues are trying to keep this largesse flowing to insurance companies because of this, and to be fair, Republicans have taken donations from the insurance companies, too. But this is a great argument for decoupling healthcare funding from government. At the very least, fund the people, not the insurance companies directly, and then let the insurance companies direct their appeals to the American consumers, not to members of Congress.
You know. Like you would expect to see in a free market economy.
Editor’s Note: The Schumer Shutdown is here. Rather than put the American people first, Chuck Schumer and the radical Democrats forced a government shutdown for healthcare for illegals. They own this.
