It's got to be an interesting time to be a police officer in the United States. In many of our big, Democrat-run cities, the local elected officials seem determined to make the jobs of law enforcement as difficult as possible. Of course, this doesn't have the greatest effect on these municipal police departments; it's a safe bet that plenty of good cops who can get jobs elsewhere have left places like Chicago and New York for places where they feel a little more appreciated.
Now the National Police Association is speaking out about one such problem: The billions that some of these blue cities are shoveling to illegal aliens. The National Police Association's spokeswoman, Sergeant Betsy Brantner Smith, recently appeared on Fox News Digital to talk about the problem.
A police group says that law enforcement in Democratic-run cities and states across the country are "tired" of seeing local politicians supporting illegal immigrants rather than attempting to address key issues they're dealing with, such as being understaffed and underfunded.
Sergeant Brantner Smith expressed the frustration of the cops she represents:
National Police Association spokeswoman Sgt. Betsy Brantner Smith told Fox News Digital that law enforcement officers view the funding as unnecessary when their agencies are already understaffed, using Chicago as one example.
"It's very frustrating for law enforcement," she said. "There are so many financial resources spent toward illegal aliens, as well as all the political capital that is being spent right now in Chicago in support of illegal aliens."
Note the qualifier in that remark: Illegal aliens. These cities are spending billions of dollars supporting people who shouldn't be here - people who are in the country illegally. It's costing the taxpayers in those cities, and for no acceptable reason. These people should be repatriated, not housed and fed at taxpayer expense, especially not when so many urban police departments are facing staffing shortages and budget cuts.
Here are some of the numbers:
New York City alone was projected to spend more than $8.9 billion on illegal immigrants in 2024 and 2025, according to the Fiscal Policy Institute. According to the report, that funding went toward housing and support for illegal immigrants.
The Illinois Policy Institute estimated that the state has spent over $2.5 billion on care for illegal immigrants since 2021. Most of the costs came from healthcare, and costs vastly exceeded initial estimates, the institute claimed.
In 2022 and 2023 alone, Chicago spent around $255 million on costs for illegal immigrants such as housing, food, clothing and other care, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.
That's an obscene amount of taxpayer cash, spent on people who have no business being in the United States.

Now, granted, there will always be some money inevitably spent on people who are in the country illegally; if one of them is hit by a truck, they should and will receive emergency medical care. We're not savages. But once they have recovered, they should be sent home.
Some taxpayers (and, candidly, some other residents who likely don't pay taxes) are speaking out about this. Some city council members, aldermen, and the like are getting an earful, people complaining about the amount of housing dedicated to illegal aliens, the amount of resources expended on keeping them housed and fed. That's a justifiable gripe. But it's also a safe bet that when the next election rolls around, these same voters will likely vote to put the same lunatics back in charge of the asylum.
Editor’s Note: The Schumer Shutdown is here. Rather than put the American people first, Chuck Schumer and the radical Democrats forced a government shutdown for healthcare for illegals. They own this.
