Remember 'Maryland Dad'? Now We See the Legacy Media Lauding Possible Drug-Smuggling 'Trinidad Son'

We recently were regaled by the legacy of the unfortunate "Maryland dad," Kilmar Abrego Garcia, who was deported, re-imported, and may face deportation again, because he entered the country illegally, has been in the country illegally, and is still in the country illegally. But he may be eclipsed, now, in the eyes of the legacy media and the left (but again, I repeat myself) by "Trinidad Son," who may have been on one of the suspected Venezuelan drug-smuggling boats now residing in Davy Jones' locker, courtesy of the USA.

Of course, there's a lot that's just not known about "Trinidad son."

Chad Joseph, a 26-year-old from Trinidad and Tobago who had been living in Venezuela in recent months, told his family he would soon be taking a short boat ride back home.

He has yet to return, and now his family fears the worst.

On Thursday, his name spread across social media, with users saying that he was one of six people aboard a suspected drug vessel that had been blown up by the U.S. military this week.

“I don’t want to believe that this is my child,” his mother, Lenore Burnley, said in an interview. “Is this really true?”

Well, his name spread across social media, so it must be true, right? Right?

Here's the onion:

The first attack, which killed 11 people, was announced by the Trump administration on Sept. 2. Family and friends took to social media to lament the deaths of eight people from the Venezuelan town of San Juan de Unare they said had died in the strike. Nobody included surnames.

They were quickly quashed: Venezuelan security officials descended on San Juan de Unare, cut off the electricity and made clear that public pronouncements about the attacks were not welcome, according to four townspeople, including the niece of one of the victims. Posts were deleted.

It seems a bit suspicious that Venezuela would go to such lengths to squash what one would think would be a considerable propaganda item for the Maduro regime. There are already rumblings from the international community about the United States disassembling these suspected drug-running boats with high explosives. It seems like the Venezuelan government would want to shout the names of these innocent people from the rooftops... unless, of course, they really were smuggling drugs, which it seems they wouldn't be so anxious to advertise.

El Presidente Maduro is already making overtures to President Trump, as it is. This kind of revelation may make things considerably more complicated.

In another interesting development, the United States Navy is reportedly holding two prisoners of war, taken from one of these drug-smuggling boats.

The U.S. military is holding two survivors aboard a Navy ship after rescuing them from a suspected drug vessel in the Caribbean hit by a U.S. strike that killed two others, three sources familiar with the matter told Reuters on Friday.

The disclosure, which has not been previously reported, raises the possibility that the survivors from Thursday's strike are the first prisoners of war in a conflict declared by President Donald Trump against a "narcoterrorist" threat he says is emanating from Venezuela.

If these "sources familiar with the matter" are correct, then one has to wonder what kind of tales these two survivors are telling their U.S. Navy captors right now. These goblins aren't known for their adherence to omertà; they generally sing like birds when caught.

In any case, it remains a bad time to be a drug-smuggler in the Caribbean. Let's hope it stays that way.
