If you've been following along with the whole climate discussion, you'll know that not everybody on the pro "destroy our modern lifestyle to save the planet from warming by three degrees over the next thousand years" side of the discussion is all there. In fact, a lot of them are just plain daffy.
Daffiness, like most human behaviors, exists on a spectrum. There's eccentric, there's nuts, there's crazy, and there's complete and utter bat-guano crazy.
Then there's "climate jihadi" Shaheer Cassim. This guy is setting a whole new standard for crazy.
A man charged on Wednesday with allegedly hijacking a plane in Canada also appeared to post on Facebook that he is the “messiah sent to save humanity from climate change,” according to local reports and police.
The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) charged 39-year-old Shaheer Cassim with one count of hijacking after he “acted with an ideological motive,” allegedly threatened a flight instructor and hijacked a plane before landing at Victoria International Airport (YVR), according to the RCMP website. The former commercial pilot allegedly posted on his social media and personal blog that the “angel Gabriel” gave him a “message from Allah” that the Arctic Sea ice is melting and will soon “turn Earth into Venus.”
“Investigators have determined the suspect acted with an ideological motive to disrupt airspace,” Sergeant Tammy Lobb, media relations officer with the Canadian Federal Policing Pacific Region said. “Thankfully, no one was injured during this incident.”
Let me get this straight: The Angel Gabriel contacted this guy personally. Not a major political figure, not a famous celebrity with a huge audience, not even a social media influencer; no, the Angel Gabriel instead speaks personally to some random dude in Canada to warn him about climate change. Oh, and it's not just climate change; the Arctic sea ice, Cassim warns us, will be gone in two years, releasing a catastrophic outpouring of methane that will cause a runaway greenhouse effect, driving humanity into extinction. How do we know about these revelations? Because Cassim put them on Facebook. Because that's always where one should go to document having been visited by an actual angel.
Cassim’s Facebook profile states that he was a commercially licensed pilot at the now-defunct charter airline KD Air from 2008 to 2010, and he posted some of his perceived climate revelations to Facebook on Monday.
“The Arctic sea ice is going to disappear within two years. When that happens, huge amounts of methane are going to erupt from the Arctic Ocean, triggering abrupt runaway global warming, turning Earth into Venus. Humans will go extinct within the first few years,” Cassim wrote. “We must begin geoengineering immediately to stabilize the Arctic ice sheet and prevent human extinction.”
Does Cassim know that, even if his claims were accurate, and let's be honest, they're not even within shouting distance of accurate, two years isn't enough time to geoengineer anything? The Earth is way too big, its climate too complex and too chaotic for that. That's why the predictions of climate scolds are always wrong, even when they give themselves more than two years to fundraise off of it before being shown to be wrong.
But wait! There's more!
Cassim wrote on his blog that “secret geoengineering” by the government has been preventing the “catastrophic release of Arctic methane” on June 2.
“President Donald Trump denies global geoengineering. President Donald Trump is not only a felon but also a liar. He deceived the whole nation when he said global warming is a hoax,” Cassim wrote.
Wait, wait - I thought he said the geoengineering was essential to save the planet and the human race. But when Donald Trump is doing it, it's bad? He even says that President Trump's geoengineering efforts have been preventing the "catastrophic release of Arctic methane."
Isn't that what he just said he wanted?
He did have one good idea, even if it is a bit platitudinous and unrealistic to the nth power.
“All religions in the world must become peaceful,” Cassim wrote on his blog in November 2024. “Muslims must not kill in Allah’s name. Shias and Sunnis must not kill each other. Osama bin Laden admitted it both in writing and on video: he orchestrated the September 11 terror attacks.”
Yeah, that would be nice. Also impossible. And Cassim is still crazy.

See, this is what happens when gullible people are subjected to the day-in, day-out drumbeat of panic-mongering by climate scolds. This is an example: a fellow who gives every indication of being an impressionable nitwit, who has been pounded for years with Chicken Little predictions of climate doom, and who was finally sent over the edge. Now, even among his fellow crazy leftists, Shaheer Cassim is a standout; he's opening up a whole new level in the Canadian crazy mines.
Maybe Shaheer Cassim will now be getting the mental health care he so clearly needs, courtesy of Canada's vaunted socialized medicine. Maybe he will get better and take his place as a productive member of society. Not as a pilot, preferably, but surely there is some employment to be found in Canada, making maple syrup, or something.
