On Sunday, using his personal X account, President Joe Biden released a letter to the American people in which he announced his withdrawal from his 2024 reelection bid.
— Joe Biden (@JoeBiden) July 21, 2024
The letter says in part:
"...while it has been my intention to seek reelection, I believe it is in the best interest of my party and the country for me to stand down and to focus slowly on fulfilling my duties as President for the remainder of my term.
I will speak to the Nation later this week in more detail about my decision."
There was no endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris or any other possible candidate in the letter. As of this writing the announcement has not appeared on the official @POTUS X feed.
