Our side is doing it again. In our haste to embrace celebrities who sometimes agree with us, some conservatives are trying to bring Boy George into the fold because he's a vocal supporter of Israel. I have some ... concerns ... about this.
Being a vocal supporter of Israel is a good thing; they can use all the back up they can get. But, Boy George isn't a hero and he certainly should not be thought of as a conservative. And it's not particularly because he's gay and has lived a very questionable lifestyle over the years – stick a pin in that, we'll revisit in a moment – but more because he's just the latest in a long line of people that will ultimately burn our side and let us down.
This isn't a Sophie Cunningham situation. I wrote a few days back about how "she said what she said" and we should just leave her be to do her thing and subtly change minds as the normie she likely is. She's doing far more good as a sports superstar with a microphone than she could do on the conservative speaker circuit.

The Boy George situation is entirely different.
Let's back up a bit.
Boy George became a pop icon back in the 1980s as the lead singer of the band Culture Club, who gave us such hits as "Karma Chameleon" and "Do You Really Want to Hurt Me." His style – did we call that androgynous back in the day? – inspired his fans to slather themselves in Day-Glo makeup and don fedoras and oversized shirts.
Maybe this will jog your memory. If you had MTV in the 80s, you know him very well.

Some say his look was inspired by Jews, and that well could be the case.
Post-Culture Club, George's path was ... interesting. And troubled. He wrote a salacious autobiography detailing his many gay affairs, tried to out George Michael, admitted to making false police reports, and was sentenced to 15 months in prison for the false imprisonment of a male prostitute.
Boy George was today sentenced to 15 months in jail for falsely imprisoning a male escort by handcuffing him to a wall and beating him with a metal chain.
The judge told the 47-year-old former Culture Club front man, whose real name is George O'Dowd, he had left the escort "shocked, degraded and traumatised" by the ordeal.
And then there's his vicious attacks in recent years on Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling over her support for keeping biological males out of women-only spaces. Among other things, he's called her a "rich bored bully, a "wood snake," and a "muggle" for her pro-woman stances.
Earlier this week, Boy George released a song called “Od Nirkod (We Will Dance Again),” a protest anthem in defense of Israel.

He's taken a lot of heat for his vocal post-October 7 support for Israel, but that's nothing new. Boy George has always embraced the controversial, it's kind of his thing.
The problem is the growing pro-Boy George chorus on the right. I've been watching this develop for a while.
Why are we all praising Boy George now? He's said absolutely vile things to @jk_rowling for years over her support of women. Oh, and he went to jail for holding a male prostitute hostage in his basement, so there's that.

I see Boy George much like I see John Fetterman. Applaud him when he says or does the right things, but keep him at a safe distance. Our side has been burned too often by wolves in sheep's clothing, so for heaven’s sake, stop handing out honorary conservative memberships to every celebrity who happens to agree with us on occasion.
Boy George may be willing to dance with us on Israel, but don’t mistake that for him joining our side.
