Either Abigail Spanberger doesn't know about the important role Virginia has played in the birth and growth of our country, or she simply doesn't care. Given that she hails from New Jersey, it could be the former, but the fact that she's a rising star in the Democrat Party guarantees it's the latter.
As our nation gets its 250th birthday party started this week with fairs, fireworks, friendship, and food, Spanberger is quietly making sure that every Confederate monument in Richmond is removed, thus stripping away an important opportunity for future generations to learn about the Civil War.
What's left behind is a bleak, soulless Monument Avenue, which, beginning back in 1890, told the story of what the South had once fought for and lost. A story that needs to be told.
I really appreciate Kevin Williams on FB putting out an honest post about what has happened here in Richmond, VA đşđ¸đđşđ¸

âI consider Richmond my hometown. What they have allowed to happen to Monument Ave is disgusting, especially approaching our Nationâs 250th. Itâs obvious civilization is drowning in mediocrity and starving for Beauty. It is one of the things which reminds a civilization that life is worth living. Cathedrals, poetry, music, sculpture, architecture, gardens, great stories are civilizational necessities.
A society which stops striving for beauty eventually forgets what it is striving for at all. Do better Richmond.â
On Monday, Virginia's General Assembly approved Spanberger's 2027 budget, which included a few million dollars to remove the remaining Confederate statues in Richmond. She now has the money to remove monuments to Thomas âStonewallâ Jackson, William âExtra Billyâ Smith, and Dr. Hunter Holmes McGuire, all of which have stood outside the state capitol since at least the early 1900s.
One Democrat, State Sen. Adam Ebbin, is happy to see the monuments go, saying earlier this year:
âI think that when we have school children in Capitol Square, or if I give tours in Capitol Square and refer people over to the Civil Rights Memorial, they have to walk past these three inappropriate monuments to grotesque people,â Ebbin said. âItâs frankly, itâs an embarrassment that theyâre there.â
âGeneral Stonewall Jackson viewed slavery as a divinely sanctioned institution. And Extra Billy Smith, who was arrested for treason in 1865, was a major general in the Confederate Army,â Ebbin said. âAnd further, Dr. Hunter Holmes McGuire was at the forefront of purging textbooks with any mention of slavery as the cause of the Civil War. And he railed against what he called suffrage to the blacks.â
It's quite curious how Ebbins, who decries these "grotesque people" who he claims were "at the forefront of purging textbooks," seems completely ignorant to the fact this his own quest to purge Virginia's state capitol of its history is extraordinarily grotesque in its own right. Those who don't learn from history are doomed to repeat it, and it seems that that's exactly what the Ebbinses of the world desire most of all.

To be sure, the Abigail Spanbergers and Adam Ebbins of the world didn't start the erasure of Virginia's history, but they're happily finishing the work started by their Marxist brethren in the Black Lives Matter movement back during the summer of 2020.
The saddest part of this whole debacle may be what's happened to the toppled statues that, despite being painful for some and historically important for others, stitched together the story of Virginia, and, thus, the story of America. But, at the moment, they make up a strange kind of morgue at a Virginia wastewater facility, with many covered in white sheets.
Yikes. The Confederate statues that once stood on Monument Ave. in Richmond, VA -- and were torn down by BLM rioters in 2020 -- are now in a bizzaro "morgue" at a wastewater facility.

After being torn down by the rioters, the monuments were entrusted to the Black History Museum & Cultural Center of Virginia, which has let the "artifacts" wither in the elements for six years.
"Decisions regarding their long-term future continue to be guided by care, listening, and engagement with community stakeholders, artists, historians, and subject matter experts. We remain committed to these objects being used for healing and look forward to sharing more with the community soon," museum executive director Shakia Gullette Warren said last week.
Removing the monuments won't completely erase Virginia's Civil War history, of course, but it does tell us something very important about Democrats: they abhor everything that is true, right, and beautiful (even if it symbolizes something painful). Virginia deserves better than it's getting from Abigail Spanberger and her fellow Democrats. And Americaâs 250th birthday deserves more than watching our history get carted off and left to rot under a sheet.
