President Trump has taken his campaign to get Senate Parliamentarian Elizabeth MacDonough handed her walking papers directly to Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD). In a Truth Social post Monday afternoon, the president called on Thune to "immediately fire the Parliamentarian, who treats Republicans, and everything that they stand for, horribly!"
Calling MacDonough a "nasty holdover from Mitch McConnell," the president went on to write she "is known as a Radical Left Lunatic that caters to Democrats, and has no respect for Republicans, or Republican Ideology" who recently "ruled against us on a proposal that would have easily been approved, and should have been, by anyone else." The proposal in question here is likely the $1 billion in funding requested for security additions to the White House ballroom construction project, which MacDonough said failed to meet procedural rules.

Senate Majority Leader John Thune should immediately fire the Parliamentarian, who treats Republicans, and everything that they stand for, horribly! She was put there by then Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, and Barack Hussein Obama, need I say more? She is a nasty holdover from Mitch McConnell (A man who has proven to be very disloyal to John Thune!), who decided to keep her because he loved giving Trillions of Dollars to the Democrats, but for the Republicans, including the Wall, where I ended up having to go “around him” to build over 1,000 Miles, and close up our Open Border, he gave NOTHING! She is known as a Radical Left Lunatic that caters to Democrats, and has no respect for Republicans, or Republican Ideology. Just the other night, as an example, she ruled against us on a proposal that would have easily been approved, and should have been, by anyone else. We have every right to change her, and should do so, IMMEDIATELY. As long as she’s there, we will never get our desperately needed, SAVE AMERICA ACT, approved, and put into full force and effect! President DONALD J. TRUMP
Although it's not the first time the president has called for MacDonough's ouster, it is the first time he's brought his case directly to Thune. In a May post on Truth Social, President Trump castigated Senate Republicans for keeping the Harry Reid-appointed MacDonough on the job, despite her being "brutal to Republicans."
“Shockingly, Republicans have kept the very important position of ‘Parliamentarian’ in the hands of a woman, Elizabeth MacDonough, who was appointed, long ago, by Barack Hussein Obama and a vicious Lunatic known as Senator Harry Reid, who ran the Senate for the Dumocrats with an ‘iron fist,’” Trump posted on Truth Social. “Over the years, she has been brutal to Republicans, but not so to the Dumocrats — So why has she not been replaced?”
To which Thune replied, “I didn’t read it, so I need to look at it." He added, “Obviously, it’s concerning when anybody gets targeted like that. But it’s, I guess, his opinion." Thune also argued that firing the parliamentarian would make it tougher to get the votes to pass Republican legislation, saying, "That would create even more vote issues here if we were to try to do something like that."

Democrat-Appointed Senate Parliamentarian Just Nuked the Trump-Backed 'Big, Beautiful Bill'
The Senate parliamentarian is appointed by the Senate majority leader, and serves as "a nonpartisan advisor to the chamber on procedural issues, interpretation of Senate rules, and legislative activity." Amongst his or her duties:
- Provide advice and assistance on legislative rules and procedures
- Advise the presiding officer on the appropriate procedure, statements, and responses during a meeting of the Senate
- Offer written guidance on procedural questions
- Recommend the referral of measures to the appropriate committee
- Maintain and publish procedural rules
President Trump is eager to get the SAVE America Act passed ahead of the midterm elections later this year, and clearly sees MacDonough as an obstacle because all she has to do is say it can’t be included in a reconciliation bill and it's dead in the water.
And that matters because reconciliation is the one path Republicans have to get around the Democrat filibuster and pass Trump’s agenda with a simple majority. If MacDonough says the SAVE Act is “election policy” instead of “budget policy,” Democrats can force it back into the regular Senate process, where it needs 60 votes.
Sen. Thune had not responded to President Trump's most recent call for Elizabeth MacDonough's firing at the time of publication, but RedState will be sure to keep you updated.
