Well, this is interesting.
On Friday, the U.S. House of Representatives voted 285-98 in favor of condemning "the horrors of socialism." The vote comes just hours before avowed socialist Zohran Mamdani, mayor-elect of New York City, meets with President Trump at the White House.
"Resolved by the House of Representatives that Congress denounces socialism in all its forms and opposes the implementation of socialist policies in the United States," the text reads.
It's not the vote itself that is interesting – it's good to get on record which lawmakers support and which condemn a disastrous political system that is antithetical to how our country operates – but who crossed the aisle to join their GOP colleagues in disavowing the likes of Mamdani. Included amongst the 86 Democrats voting to condemn socialism was the entire Democrat House leadership team: House Minority Leader Rep. Hakeem Jeffries, (NY-08), House Minority Whip Rep. Katherine Clark (MA-05), Chair of the House Democratic Caucus Rep. Pete Aguilar (CA-33), and Vice Chair of the House Democratic Caucus Rep. Ted Lieu (CA-36).

Wait a second, you might be saying to yourself, didn't Hakeem Jeffries endorse Democrat socialist superstar Mamdani? Yes. Yes, he did. Poor Hakeem is stuck between a rock and a hard place – he doesn't seem ready to cede his party to its rising socialist wing, despite his Mamdani endorsement and the fact that his home state is a breeding ground for young Marxists, but he now finds himself facing a primary showdown from Chi Ossé, a member of the Democratic Socialists of America party.
A precarious predicament, indeed. Expect Jeffries to continue to flounder, especially with the looming retirement of Nancy Pelosi, the one person who's been propping up his "leadership" for the past few years.

The Supposed Great Victory of Zohran Mamdani Stinks to High Heaven
It sounds like there were some pretty good fireworks on the House floor ahead of Friday morning's vote. Republican Rep. Maria Salazar (FL-27), the author of the measure, apparently got into a heated verbal altercation with Democrat Rep. Maxine Waters (CA-43), with Salazar accusing Waters of being a "friend" of Cuban dictator Fidel Castro despite.
Following the vote, which all Republican members supported, one GOPer spoke of the need to condemn socialism.
"It always leads to a destruction of liberties for people," Representative Byron Donalds of Florida said. "We have a responsibility to defend the American core of capitalism, free markets and liberty [against] socialism, democratic socialism, communism, authoritarianism, fascism."
As for the man himself, Zohran Mamdani didn't seemed fussed by the House vote decrying socialism. When asked for comment by the media as he made his way to the White House meeting, Mamdani replied, "Brother, I can tell you all I've been thinking about is preparing for this meeting and speaking up for New Yorkers."
