The October Surprise Jay Jones Didn't See Coming: Special Prosecutor Now Probing Reckless Driving Deal

Jason Miyares, Virginia's current attorney general who's running for reelection against odious Democrat Jay Jones, has been asking an important question this week: what is Jay Jones hiding? The question has to do with how Jones carried out his 1,000 hours of community service for his 2022 reckless driving conviction.

Before the Jay Jones texting scandal blew up a few weeks ago – as you'll recall, he wished death upon a Republican rival and dreamed of seeing the wife of his rival cradling their dead children – we were talking about Jones' reckless driving conviction from 2022. Jones was clocked going 116 MPH in a 70 MPH zone; he pleaded guilty in order to avoid serving time in jail, paid a $1,500 fine, and was sentenced to 1,000 hours of community service.

VA Dem AG Candidate Jay Jones Dreamed of Putting 'Two Bullets to the Head' of GOP House Speaker (Updated)

His "community service" has certainly raised a few eyebrows; it looks like the wannabe AG did a significant portion of his time volunteering for his own PAC, Meet Our Moment (MOM). He also reportedly worked at the Virginia chapter of the NAACP.

As the Miyares video points out, that math ain't mathin'. According to the signed certificates from both the NAACP and MOM PAC, Jay Jones completed more than 500 hours of community service for each organization during the 2023 calendar year. And that means he would have had to work at least 20 hours per week on his community service while also handling his full time work at the Washington, D.C., law firm Hogan Lovell, all while crisscrossing the commonwealth campaigning for his fellow Democrats.

Either Jay Jones is superhuman or there's something not quite right about how the various players have accounted for his community service hours.

Well, as it turns out, Jason Miyares isn't the only one asking questions about Jay Jones's fishy accounting of his "community service." There's now a special prosecutor actively looking into the matter, which had seem to be resolved years ago.

Book not shut. Case not closed.

According to NRO, which obtained a copy of the legal ruling dated October 21, 2025, Judge Elliott Bondurant has appointed Nathan Green, the commonwealth attorney for James City County, as special prosecutor. This comes after New Kent County Commonwealth Attorney Scott Renick recused himself from the case. Recusals are not uncommon, but the case of Jay Jones keeps getting curiouser and curiouser.

It Just Gets Worse for Jay Jones and the Virginia Democrat Party

This looks to be an active investigation, friends, with less than two weeks left until Election Day.

Our friend Nick Minock of the local ABC affiliate reported earlier in October that Renick was looking into how Jones got off with a slap on the wrist for his driving offense. As Minock noted, people caught going slower than Jones received jail time and suspended sentences, but there's good ole Jay Jones free as a bird and volunteering for his own PAC.

Recent polling shows Miyares surging ahead of Jones going into the final weeks of the campaign; for this first time this election, polls now show Miyares leading 45 percent to Jones's 42 percent. Jason Miyares clearly has the momentum, and this renewed legal interest in Jay Jones's sweetheart deal may just sink Jones's candidacy once and for all.

Early voting in Virginia ends November 1; Election Day is November 4.
