Karoline Leavitt Torches 'Mealymouthed' NYT Journo Who Got It Spectacularly Wrong on D.C. Cleanup

There seems to be a concerted effort afoot amongst some members of the Washington, D.C.-based legacy media to paint the Nation's Capital as a bucolic wonderland that didn't need the intervention of Donald Trump and federal law enforcement to make it safer.

CNN's Wolf Blitzer is one prime example; you could almost hear him recoiling in horror as he posted a photo of the stepped-up law enforcement presence at D.C.'s Union Station. The snooty subtext was clear: Wolf was fine with how things were when the great unwashed masses who use Union Station to catch the Metro or an Amtrak train had to step over the homeless or run in fear from aggressive panhandlers. How dare President Trump make things safer for the plebs?

Then there's the special case of Peter Baker, the chief White House correspondent for the New York Times; the guy seems to thrive on the attention he gets for always being wrong. RedState's Bonchie wrote a few days ago about Baker cluelessly claiming that law enforcement was only present in areas of D.C. where there is no crime. News flash: there is crime in every part of the city, courtesy of the decades of Democrat rule.

And, please. As if the Wolf Blitzers and Peter Bakers of the world would have any idea about real life in Washington, D.C.

Well, Baker was at it again, and this time White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt really let him have it. Baker had gleefully tweeted that restaurant reservations in D.C. were down 25 percent in the days since the federal takeover of the city. Just one thing, as Leavitt notes: Baker was using data cited in an article about the decline in reservations during Restaurant Week of August, 2024. A full year before the Trump takeover, and having nothing whatsoever to do with August, 2025.

The New York Times “Chief White House Correspondent” Peter Baker is indistinguishable from a junior Democrat comms staffer — except he’s even worse at his job.

Peter was so excited to criticize President Trump that he didn’t even realize the article he shared was updated, because it dishonestly compared last year’s DC “restaurant week” data to non-restaurant week data this year.

The truth is restaurant reservations in DC were up 30% two days ago!

Democrats and their left-wing media friends hate that President Trump is finally cleaning up DC!

Instead of the doing the right thing—deleting the erroneous tweet that had garnered quite a few views and issuing a genuine apology—Baker instead tried to justify using the old, irrelevant data. This is where "mealymouthed" comes in.

This is the problem with activist reporters and why Americans’ trust in the mass media is at the lowest point in more than five decades.

I exposed Peter Baker of the New York Times for sharing fake news about the impact of President Trump’s efforts to Make DC Safe Again.

But instead of fully retracting his original post that received nearly a million views, Peter posted a mealymouthed reply trying to excuse why he got it completely wrong to begin with.

The “Chief White House Correspondent” for the New York Times cares more about attacking President Trump than accurately reporting the news.

Let's hope things are suitably frosty for Baker this week in the White House Press Briefing Room. He's earned every bit of derision headed his way because he'd rather mislead his followers than admit Washington, D.C. is becoming safe under President Trump's leadership. Trump’s law-and-order approach is working, and no amount of media gaslighting is going to change that.

Editor's Note: The days of lawlessness in Washington, D.C. are over. Thanks to President Trump, our nation's capital will be SAFE once again.
