US Navy Destroyer Comes Under Missile Attack

The American guided missile destroyer, USS Mason, has come under missile attack while in international waters off the coast of Yemen.

The guided-missile destroyer USS Mason (DDG-87) was unsuccessfully attacked with two missiles fired from Yemen on Sunday, Pentagon officials told reporters early Monday morning.

Mason was near the strait of Bab el-Mandeb in international waters when two missiles were fired from shore around 7 P.M. local time on Sunday, Pentagon spokesman Capt. Jeff Davis said to reporters.

“USS Mason detected two inbound missiles over a 60-minute period while in the Red Sea off the coast of Yemen. Both missiles impacted the water before reaching the ship,” Davis said, reported Reuters.

“There were no injuries to our sailors and no damage to the ship.”

There are a couple of obvious take-aways from this incident.

First, the missiles were fired from an area that is controlled by “rebels” who are controlled by Iran’s Pasdaran. This is the same international terrorist force that has carried out attacks on a Jewish synagogue in Buenos Aires, that has organized suicide bombings in Israel, that owns Lebanese Hezbollah and two-thirds of Iraq, and that received some $170 billion in ransom money from the Obama administration.

Second, the Unites States is sorta-kinda helping the Saudis try to put down these “rebels,” though Obama is spending more time hectoring the Saudis than he is in opposing Iran’s expansionism.

Iran’s game here is pretty simple. It knows that Obama is a weak and feckless goof and they have his number. They are separating the US from its allies in the region — it is no coincidence that Israel and the Palestinians are planning on holding their next round of talks in Moscow with Putin as the honest broker — and they are raising the marginal costs of US military presence in the Persian Gulf. The attack on the USS Mason is part of the same strategy that led Iran to kidnap two US riverine craft and their crews. They know there will be no consequences and it makes the US look weak to anyone who is paying attention.
