This past weekend, California Republicans hit the ground running at the Fall 2025 Convention with one clear goal: stop Proposition 50, Gavin Newsom’s latest attempt to seize power from the people. With the state at the center of a gerrymandering fight that could shape politics for a generation, the stakes have never been higher.
What stood out most was the energy. Not just the usual grassroots buzz, but an unusual surge of attendees under 40. For years, Democrats have claimed a lock on young voters, yet the convention floor told a different story: the next generation of Republicans is showing up, engaged, and ready to fight.
That energy was met with a level of accessibility from elected officials and candidates that delegates don’t always see. Assemblymembers David Tangipa and Kate Sanchez (both Young Republicans themselves) headlined the California Young Republican Federation’s legislative panel, taking direct aim at Prop 50.
Our nominee for @cyrfgop Chair Kristen Nicole Valle moderated a fascinating panel in front of a PACKED audience with Assemblyman @DavidTangipa and Assemblywoman @KateSanchezCA at the Fall 2025 @CAGOP Convention! 🇺🇸

Meanwhile, gubernatorial candidates Chad Bianco and Steve Hilton and State Superintendent of Public Instruction candidate Sonja Shaw were out front and center. Hilton in particular made the rounds all weekend, from the GOP Union Caucus meeting to Shawn Steel’s Cigar & Chocolate Social to Leo Zacky’s Casino Night, proving he understands the importance of retail politics.

Beyond the campaign trail chatter, Susan Shelley of the Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association worked the convention floor to remind attendees of another looming battle: protecting Proposition 13, California’s landmark law that caps property taxes, from Democrat attempts to chip away at taxpayer protections.
Just as important were the county leaders, grassroots volunteers, and first-time delegates who showed up determined to take the fight home to their districts. Their presence underscored that the California GOP isn’t just a spectator party anymore. It’s rebuilding from the ground up.

But make no mistake, the central theme of the weekend was unity against Prop 50. Whether on the main stage, in caucus meetings, or in hallway conversations, the drumbeat was consistent: Republicans must rally every resource, every volunteer, and every vote to stop it.
The Convention is over. Now the campaign is on to STOP Prop 50. 🛑

The biggest takeaway was that the Fall 2025 convention revealed the California GOP’s potential: a party energized by youth, fueled by grassroots activists, and united around issues that resonate with voters.
The momentum is here, and now it’s on California Republicans to turn it into action at the ballot box.
