TOP O' THE MORNIN'
About That Video of Deb Fischer's Husband and Kamala Harris That's Circulating on Social Media
But my money is on Mr. Fischer likely being far more concerned about losing his balance and falling than for being viewed as "low character" by low-character clout-seeking social media mobs for not shaking Harris' hand.
Kinzinger Claims Both Parties Always Accepted Election Results, Promptly Gets Stuffed in a Locker
Aside from being insufferable, Kinzinger is factually incorrect. Democrats have objected to election results in each of the Republican-won elections this century.
Is Jack Smith Breaking the Rules? Trump Co-Defendants File Motion to Block Special Counsel Report
It's a tricky legal situation, but the quest to go after Donald Trump "no matter the cost" might leave Garland, Smith, and others with more problems than they started with.
WHAT'S ON TAP?
Today on Capitol Hill...
Having certified the 2024 presidential election Monday, Congress is back in business Tuesday. We don't have a hearing schedule set just yet but we do know, per Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA), that the House intends to take up the Laken Riley Act.
The House will vote today on the Laken Riley Act to ensure criminals like Laken’s murderer are detained & deported before they can commit such evil acts.

Also on Tuesday, the body of former President Jimmy Carter, who passed away on December 29, will be transferred to the U.S. Capitol, where he will lie in state in the Capitol Rotunda until Thursday when his funeral service will be held at the National Cathedral.
Looking ahead, President-elect Donald Trump plans to meet with Senate Republicans Wednesday on the Hill.
White House What's Up
President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill are in California Tuesday, where the president is set to deliver afternoon remarks (subject currently unknown) in Thermal/Coachella, California.
Full Court Press...
There was a flurry of activity Monday in Manhattan, where Trump's legal team sought a stay of his sentencing while they appeal post-trial rulings, DA Alvin Bragg's office opposed it, and Judge Juan Merchan said, "Nope." As of right now, sentencing is still on for Friday.
Sebastian Zapata, the 33-year-old Guatemalan national accused of setting a woman on fire on a New York subway train and killing her, is due in court Tuesday for his arraignment.
New York Mayor Eric Adams currently has an April 21, 2025, trial date in the Southern District of New York on corruption charges. (Will that be affected by Trump's taking office?)
As Joe Cunningham reported Monday night, Trump's co-defendants in the classified documents case are requesting that the 11th Circuit bar the release of grand jury material by (former) Special Counsel Jack Smith in light of his being disqualified.
MORNING MUSING
I suspect I'm not alone in having breathed a sigh of relief Monday as Congress completed its ceremonial duty of certifying the 2024 presidential election and officially declaring Donald Trump and JD Vance the 47th President and 50th Vice President of the United States, respectively. All that remains is getting them sworn in on January 20. I wish I weren't waiting for the other shoe to drop, but I suspect I'm also not alone in that. Buckle up, friends.
