When you've burned all the bridges that Rep. Thomas Massie (KY-04) has within your own party over the years, you'd think that maybe at a certain point, he might come to the conclusion that it's best he doesn't test his (bad) luck anymore than he already has.
But apparently, Massie decided that Primary Day would not be that day, pulling a last-minute stunt to try to win over voters in the GOP primary that has President Donald Trump fuming and demanding the congressman retract it.
On Tuesday morning, independent journalist Salena Zito revealed that voters in the congressional district currently represented by Massie were receiving the following text message from his campaign:
Kentucky election day shenanigans;

Massie's Trump-endorsed GOP primary opponent, 5th-generation Kentucky farmer and 30-year Navy SEAL veteran Ed Gallrein, also caught wind of it and warned people about it:
Thomas Massie sent a text claiming to be endorsed by President Trump. That is false.
Listen to President Trump in his own words endorsing Navy SEAL Ed Gallrein and calling Massie “the worst Congressman in history.”
Massie is lying about Trump. He’s lying about term limits. He’ll say anything to stay in Congress forever.
Vote Ed Gallrein for Congress. Fire Massie.

On Tuesday afternoon, Trump himself took to Truth Social and X and went off:
Horrible Congressman Thomas Massie put out an old Endorsement, from many years ago, of him by me long before I found out that he was the Worst Congressman in the History of our Country. I endorsed Ed Gallrein, a true American Patriot, which Massie knows full well, so the statement that he put out is fraudulent, just like HE is fraudulent. WITHDRAW YOUR FAKE STATEMENT, MASSIE, RIGHT NOW! President DONALD J. TRUMP

Incredibly, but not surprisingly, Massie doubled down on poking the bear:

The president again took to Truth Social to slam Massie:
Can you imagine “Congressman” Thomas Massie putting out a many years ago Endorsement of him, by me, when he knows that he wasn’t endorsed, but that I proudly endorsed Ed Gallrein? The reason is that Massie has turned out to be the Worst Congressman in the Republican Party. This shows what a totally dishonest and desperate guy Massie is, and I hope the Voters aren’t fooled by his deception! President DONALD J. TRUMP
