Democrats have been fearmongering and pushing nonsense claims about voter/photo ID for as long as I can remember, with North Carolina being one of the states that leftist groups tried to sue into oblivion over the original GOP-backed voter/photo ID bill that was signed into law in 2013 by then-Gov. Pat McCrory (R).
Ultimately, the state prevailed even after the 2013 law was overturned in 2016 by the 4th Circuit Court. In 2018, a constitutional amendment on voter/photo ID was approved by voters. Though the bill that was passed from it was considered by some to be a "more lenient" version of the original, it was also challenged in the courts - a challenge that eventually failed. Voter/photo ID is now the law in North Carolina - one of 36 states to have some form of it on the books.
It was a complicated, hard-fought, expensive, and unnecessary battle over something that even polling at various points throughout the legal battles showed widespread support for in the state, including among Democrats and black voters - the very voters Democrats have tried to claim the law would negatively impact the most.

While debate rages on in the court of public opinion - and the United States Senate - about the SAVE America Act, one thing remains clear: an overwhelming majority of people in this country, including Democrats and black voters, still approve of voter/photo ID - something even CNN recently couldn't help but acknowledge, as we previously reported:
🚨NEW: CNN's Harry Enten: "A photo ID to vote is not controversial in this country. It is not controversial by party — and it is not controversial by race. The vast majority of Americans agree with @NICKIMINAJ." @DailyCaller https://t.co/IGtKg3lsmo pic.twitter.com/9QteRAeLmn

Sen. Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) was confronted by this inconvenient fact in a Sunday interview with the network's Jake Tapper, who appeared to trip up Schumer before he tried to recover. Schumer again called it "Jim Crow 2.0," a standard talking point for Democrats when it comes to any legislation related to actual electoral integrity (as we saw, for instance, in Georgia in 2021 when the election reforms bill was signed into law):
"We will not let it pass in the Senate," Schumer told CNN’s Jake Tapper. "We are fighting it tooth and nail. It's an outrageous proposal that is, you know, that shows the sort of political bias of the MAGA right. They don't want poor people to vote. They don't want people of color to vote because they often don't vote for them."

Tapper: 83% of Americans including a majority of Democrats support voter ID.

Schumer: This is Jim Crow 2.0. MAGA doesn’t want poor people and people of color to vote.
He’s going to just keep saying this no matter how buffoonish and absurd he looks, because he wants non-citizens… pic.twitter.com/EhigP0mrSO
FLASHBACK: Record Voter Turnout Means We Need to Look at How Much Georgia Election Law Lies Cost the State
Meanwhile, Sen John Fetterman (D-PA) continues to be the lone Democrat voice of reason on this issue, though he hasn't said how he'll ultimately vote on the SAVE America Act - assuming it even gets to the floor for a vote, that is:
"I would never refer to the SAVE Act as like Jim Crow 2.0 or some kind of mass conspiracy," Fetterman told Fox News’ Kayleigh McEnany on "Saturday in America."
"But that's part of the debate that we were having here in the Senate right now," he continued. "And I don't call people names or imply that it's something gross about the terrible history of Jim Crow."
[...]
"So it's not like a radical idea," Fetterman said. "It's not something — and there already are many states that show basic IDs. So that's where we are in the Senate."

“You have ID to vote — many states already do that.”
Even Democrats know this is common sense.
Will the rest of the party finally admit it? 🇺🇸 pic.twitter.com/XixUFoOkI8
"Will the rest of the party finally admit it?" I think we all know the answer to that one.
Editor’s Note: Republicans are fighting for election integrity by requiring proper identification to vote.
