The closer we get to the one-month mark of the Schumer Shutdown, the more frantic Democrats become to assign blame for their holding the federal government hostage on behalf of "free" healthcare for illegals and a continuance of the enhanced ACA subsidies.
As we reported earlier, though, GOP House Speaker Mike Johnson (LA-04) is having none of it, using Democrat House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries' (NY-08) endorsement of radical NYC mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani as definitive evidence that the far left has hijacked the party and, in the process, any hope for a resolution on the shutdown anytime soon.
"The House Democrats have chosen a side. They were forced to by that far left that they're so terrified of, and they've shown the world what they really believe," Johnson stated Monday. "There is no longer a place for centrists and moderates in their party."

For some reason, Senate Democrats seem to be treating Sen. Ruben Gallego (D-AZ) as an effective messenger on their behalf, because we've been seeing a lot more of him in recent weeks, like when he and his Senate colleague Mark Kelly pulled a stunt in trying to confront Johnson over the issue of not swearing Rep.-elect Adelita Grijalva (AZ-07) about a week after the shutdown started.
But "effective" is not what I would call Gallego getting owned by CNBC's Joe Kernen during a Monday interview, where the senator did not like getting challenged over the fact that he has previously condemned prior shutdowns:
"I don't know and I don't care," says petulant baby @RubenGallego when asked about his past shutdown comments.

Here's a reminder —
2013: You can't "shutdown the government... and still claim to be a Patriot"
2019: "Putting the country in danger"
2023: "Put country before… pic.twitter.com/JbA7aU1M2B
In fact, Kernen would later cut the interview short over Gallego's defensiveness and combativeness, and unwillingness to directly answer the questions Kernen was trying to ask him about the Democrats' shutdown tactics.
The day didn't get any better for Gallego when GOP House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (LA-01) blasted him during the Republican House Conference presser over an interview Gallego did on Sunday on NBC News:
Sen. Gallego went onto Meet the Press. He was asked when Democrats would reopen the government. And he said, "I'm not looking at a timetable; I'm looking at everyone's personal pocketbooks."
Now, Sen. Gallego, you ought to be looking at the pocketbooks of those single moms who right now are facing losing their WIC payments. Facing losing their SNAP payments. And if Sen. Gallego's not sure how many people that is, we've been told by the administration how many people will stand to lose real benefits, SNAP benefits, food stamps, for kids. 42 million people will lose those benefits in just a few days. Sen. Gallego, look at their pocketbooks.

Meanwhile, Sen. Gallego stressed a week ago that he could not go without his government paycheck, even as his staffers faced their first pay period where they wouldn't get paid due to the Schumer Shutdown, comments Johnson's office pointed to as well:

I believe at this stage of the shutdown, it's become clear that for Democrats, the pain is the point - as long as Democrats themselves are still getting paid, though.
Editor’s Note: The Schumer Shutdown is here. Rather than put the American people first, Chuck Schumer and the radical Democrats forced a government shutdown for healthcare for illegals. They own this.
