One thing we keep hearing from so-called Democrat "leaders" in Portland and at the state level in Oregon is that what's going on at the ICE facility is manageable, that they've got it under control, and that there's no need for the troop deployment ordered by President Trump.
For example, Gov. Tina Kotek (D) proclaimed, "Portland and the State of Oregon believe in the rule of law and can manage our own local public safety needs." Portland's Democrat mayor, Keith Wilson, repeated the false talking point about there being no violence or lawlessness in his city.
"The president will not find violence or lawlessness here," Wilson said during a press conference.
Sen. Ron Wyden declared that Trump was "launching an authoritarian takeover of Portland hoping to provoke conflict in my hometown," as though the conflict was not already provoked - by Antifa.

Something they conveniently leave out, however, is that these organized agitators pretty much own the area around the ICE building because the police presence is so sparse that the rioters pretty much get away with everything.
Case in point, earlier this week, TPM investigative reporter Katie Daviscourt was allegedly assaulted by a "peaceful protester" who appeared to deliberately wave a flag pole in her face, which Daviscourt says hit her in the eye, causing a black eye.
Not only did Daviscourt trail her alleged attacker with a camera, but she also flagged down a Portland police officer who was on the scene. Watch what happened next (language warning):
Portland (Sept. 30) — After @KatieDaviscourt was bashed on the eye with a heavy pole by an Antifa rioter, Katie flagged down a @PortlandPolice officer and chased down the suspect who had changed and was escaping on foot. Watch how the officer lets her go. pic.twitter.com/GmBYnU0vqO

Incredibly, though the officer initially had the suspect in his sights and yet let her go, as the video shows, the Portland PD put out a social media message... asking for the public's help in finding the agitator (who, I should point out, was escorted to an Antifa safe space after being let go, according to Daviscourt):

In another example, Fox News national correspondent Bill Melugin shared an image of Portland police just standing around watching while two groups nearly came to blows (language warning):

Portland's ICE director, Cammila Wamsley, told Melugin in an interview that it was "frustrating" that they couldn't do more to quell the agitators and the violence that has been happening for 90 days straight, because the Portland PD is often MIA:
“So the Portland Police Bureau is really under guidance from the mayor and the city council and other people that they're not there. First off, they're not really supposed to respond to this building. There have been folks that have been assaulted right down here on the street, even across the street. And it takes Portland police a while to respond or sometimes they don't respond at all, which is unfortunate because, you know, people here deserve to be protected by the police, just as they would six blocks from here. But that is not the stance that PPB has based on what the mayor and the and the city council has has provided the guidance to them. So, no, if there's any immigration enforcement happening in this building at all, which there is a lot of the time, they will not respond. But more than that, there's, like I said, like more of a bubble around the building where they don't respond all the time and if they do respond, it's afterwards.”
[...]
"It's frustrating for us to watch people be attacked on the street and know that we don't have the authority to be able to really step in unless there's some nexus to federal law. That's frustrating for us. It's frustrating to feel that if we have a situation in which our officers are overwhelmed with a number of people, I mean. We've seen it before. The folks here can go from a crowd of 50 to a crowd of 1000 in in 30 minutes. Yeah. And then, you know, depending sometimes we only have 20 officers here. We would we would not be able to defend the building with that show of force, if you will, especially if they're the folks who are intent on on committing violence.”
NEW: ICE’s Portland Director tells me it’s like there’s a “bubble” around the ICE building where Portland PD won’t respond to violence due to politics from Mayor & city council. Amazingly, Portland's police chief says the picture of his city has been distorted based on old videos:
Chief Day addressed misconceptions surrounding recent news, stressing that the situation involves one city block out of Portland’s 145 square miles. He noted that short video clips, sometimes from months or even years ago, don’t reflect what is actually happening today. pic.twitter.com/ykiuj0Ys8x

Omitted from that round of gaslighting was that on those rare occasions that the Portland PD does engage, here is what happens (language warning):

Dunno about y'all, but none of this sounds or looks like a city that has its agitator problems under control, does it? From my vantage point, it almost seems as though Democrats actually want them there. They certainly haven't denied it, and until they do (and even if they do), that's what I'm gonna go with.
