It's undeniable at this point that the mainstream media was, collectively, an active participant in the cover-up of President Joe Biden's declining health, starting before he officially became the Democrat nominee in 2020 and continuing until the disastrous June 2024 presidential debate with Donald Trump (and the immediate aftermath) when they couldn't cover (up) for Biden anymore.
What was particularly insulting to the intelligence of the American people was the fact that so many in the mainstream media, including NBC News resident Democrat apologist Chuck Todd, feigned shock after the debate, acting as though they didn't see it coming.
It didn't take long, though, before so-called journalists like Todd admitted that they absolutely did see it coming from way back when, and in some cases were even told about it by senior administration officials - but declined to report on it at the time.
Some six months or so after the fallout from that debate began, former CNN editor at large Chris Cillizza has posted a confession of sorts on his YouTube channel regarding his prior coverage of Biden when he was at the struggling network. Cillizza admitted he should have asked more questions and that the outrage expressed by Biden's handlers the few times he would ask them about it intimidated him into not pressing the issue anymore:
As a reporter, I have a confession to make. I should have pushed harder earlier for more information about Joe Biden’s mental and physical well-being and any signs of decline.
So, let me explain. Joe Biden was president from 2020 to 2024. I worked at CNN through 2022. During that time, the early part when I was at CNN, Republicans would regularly ping me and say, ‘Why don’t you ask more questions of Joe Biden and how he’s doing? He’s [an old] man.’ And I would sort of brush them off because what I would say is, ‘Well, there’s no obvious evidence that he’s declining. Yeah, he moves a little slower, he talks a little slower, but there’s no evidence that he’s declining.'
And the White House and the people around Joe Biden were absolutely adamant that suggesting anything, asking the question about whether he was in some physical, mental, or both decline, was offensive. ‘How could you? It’s age shaming.’
And I think that impacted me at some level because, while I did ask the question from time to time, you know, not directly to the White House, but aides and people around in that orbit, I didn’t really push on it if I’m being honest.

I watched that clip several times and I think my eyes rolled in the back of my head a little more each time I watched it and here's why.
Any self-proclaimed "reporter" who is issuing apologies and making confessions about not doing more in the way of actually performing their jobs in demanding answers about Biden's health is just engaging in self-serving behavior because they think it makes them look better by "coming clean" about the things they should have done throughout Biden's presidency but didn't.
The only reason they're upset with themselves over the issue is because in their minds, had they done their jobs to begin with, Democrats may have been able to force Biden out of the presidential race much sooner, giving them a chance to hold actual primaries where the eventual nominee would have had more time to make their case to the American people and possibly defeat Trump on Election Day, which is what the press wanted.
I mean, who is Cillizza trying to fool here? He did not just allow himself to be intimidated into not digging into the issue; he was one of the main media figures out there suggesting it was unseemly and cruel for Trump and others to be questioning Biden's fitness to lead the country:
Some context here.

So, no. Pseudo-apology not accepted. Cillizza knew. Todd knew. The New York Times knew. They all knew even as they falsely accused others of being smear merchants and posting so-called "cheap fakes" for daring to raise questions about the mental acuity of the President of the United States.
And the reason they didn't say anything is because they were okay with dragging Biden over the finish line one more time to prevent Trump from winning a second presidential term. It's just as simple as that.
