Hot Takes: GOP Politicos Unload After Colorado Supreme Court Primary Ballot Ruling on Donald Trump

As RedState reported earlier, in a highly controversial move, four of the seven Democrat-appointed justices on the Colorado Supreme Court ruled Tuesday that 2024 GOP presidential candidate and former POTUS Donald Trump should be removed from the Republican primary ballot on 14th Amendment, Section 3 grounds over his alleged role in the Jan. 6 Capitol riot.

“We do not reach these conclusions lightly,” they wrote. “We are mindful of the magnitude and weight of the questions now before us. We are likewise mindful of our solemn duty to apply the law, without fear or favor, and without being swayed by public reaction to the decisions that the law mandates we reach.”

Not surprisingly, this has prompted a flurry of outrage on the right and beyond the Trump campaign, with Republican politicos - some who have endorsed Trump and some who haven't - among the many who understandably are pointing to the ruling as further evidence that Democrats continue to use the courts to try and rig the 2024 presidential election for Joe Biden by hamstringing a potential general election opponent:

House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.):

Today’s ruling attempting to disqualify President Trump from the Colorado ballot is nothing but a thinly veiled partisan attack.

Regardless of political affiliation, every citizen registered to vote should not be denied the right to support our former president and the individual who is the leader in every poll of the Republican primary.

We trust the U.S. Supreme Court will set aside this reckless decision and let the American people decide the next President of the United States.

Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.):

Liberals on the Colorado Supreme Court just ruled that Trump SHOULD NOT appear on the Colorado primary ballot for 2024.

This is extreme judicial activism that is designed to suppress the vote and voices of hundreds of thousands of Coloradans, which is absolutely unacceptable.

I am confident the U.S. Supreme Court will remedy this horrible decision so Coloradans will have the right to cast their ballot for our 45th and 47th President, Donald J. Trump.

We will fight this every step of the way!

Some of the Republican presidential candidates are also weighing in. Stay tuned to RedState for articles on their reactions and more on this developing story.
