House Speaker Mike Johnson is growing weary of the Democrats and their latest round of political gamesmanship.
Speaking to reporters at a Capitol press conference on Wednesday, the Louisiana congressman portrayed the resistance party's unceasing efforts to shut down the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) as inexcusable. Detestable, even. (The partial government shutdown, in its sixth week, has left the DHS unfunded since mid-February.)
Johnson was not in a mincing words kind of mood, either, accusing the obstructionists of deliberately harming American citizens and jeopardizing national security simply to protect illegal aliens — including known criminals.
He did this as a photo of 18-year-old Loyola University Chicago freshman Sheridan Gorman and her killer, Jose Medina-Medina, a 25-year-old Venezuelan national who entered the U.S. illegally under former President Joe Biden, sat in the background.
"Congressional Democrats have held our airports, TSA, FEMA, the Coast Guard—so many critical functions of our government, we're talking about anti-bioterrorism matters and issues, we're talking about cybersecurity, all these things—they're holding the government hostage," Johnson said. "Why? What is their demand?"
"At the root of all of this, they want to reopen the border, and they want to protect criminal illegal aliens," he added. "Just like this murderer here."

Gorman's murder is practically a carbon copy of the Laken Riley story. Completely preventable. Caused by Democrat policies.
Medina-Medina, according to DHS, was apprehended by U.S. Border Patrol on May 9, 2023, and released into the country under the previous administration's policies; he was later released again on June 19, 2023, following a shoplifting arrest in Chicago under local sanctuary policies.
Why do Democrats insist on protecting criminals? Aside from getting their vote, anyway? Because they view animals like Medina-Medina as more human, more American, more important than young women like Riley or Gorman.
And Johnson points out that the extremist party has not budged an inch on this insanity since that viral moment at the State of the Union address when President Trump asked who among them believed their duty is to the American people above illegal aliens.
"That is the modern Democrat party," Johnson explained. "And they verify it with their actions every single day."
"At the State of the Union—you remember, everybody knows—the President ... asked a very simple question, 'Stand and applaud if you think the first job of the federal government is to protect American citizens over illegal aliens,'" he continued. "Every single Democrat in the chamber sat on their hands."
They're still sitting on their hands. Even as it cost Gorman her life.

The Democratic Party is a disgrace. To the American people. To the families of victims of the very illegal aliens they coddle. To themselves and their families.
Or, as the President has said, they represent the "greatest enemy."
And they're not exactly backing down. They relish the chaos in our cities and now, at every airport and the border—two precise locations that terrorists will target.
"At this exact moment, even as we learn of yet another entirely preventable murder of an innocent young woman at the hands of criminal illegal aliens, Democrats in the House are demanding a DHS bill that would eliminate funding for the exact agencies that are tasked with preventing a tragedy like this," Johnson added.
Liberalism is a disease. Sanctuary policies are a symptom of the disease. And pro-illegal politicians are helping to spread the disease.
