Trump Rips Secret Service Protection From Kamala Harris, After Biden Privately Extended Her Detail

President Trump, in a letter to Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem on Thursday, revoked Secret Service protection from former Vice President Kamala Harris.

It was a directive necessitated by the fact that former President Joe Biden and/or his autopen had secretly authorized the detail to extend well beyond the standard term of protection for former Vice Presidents.

A copy of the letter, titled “Memorandum for the Secretary of Homeland Security," was obtained by CNN

“You are hereby authorized to discontinue any security-related procedures previously authorized by Executive Memorandum, beyond those required by law, for the following individual, effective September 1, 2025: Former Vice President Kamala D. Harris,” the letter states.

Trump Rips Secret Service Protection From Former DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas

This will almost assuredly be spun by the media as some sort of attempt by Trump to risk Kamala's safety, but reality suggests otherwise.

As RedState's Jennifer Oliver O'Connell reported back in May, former VPs can keep their Secret Service protection for up to six months after leaving office. Harris had been spotted lugging around her detail, which included seven SUVs (the carbon footprint alone!), to the uber-glamorous Met Gala.

O'Connell reported that the "gravy train" was about to end, and "soon (taxpayers) won't have to pay for it."

Unbeknownst to everybody, Biden issued a directive granting Harris Secret Service protection for three times as long as other vice presidents by extending it for an additional full year.

CNN reports that the bonus taxpayer-funded detail was "not made public until now – signed by then-President Joe Biden shortly before leaving office."

Biden, of course, at that time had been well-established as having cognitive issues, which people close to him used as an excuse to sign things wantonly via autopen.

Trump's move is a matter of following the Former Vice President Protection Act, passed in 2008, granting the Secret Service authority to provide protection for six months after a former Veep leaves office. Biden himself and Mike Pence only had the protection for six months before having to hire their own private security.

Dick Cheney, though, did have an extension granted by former President Barack Obama.

Trump's move to revoke Harris's Secret Service detail will undoubtedly disrupt her upcoming schedule. Kamala is launching a nationwide book tour next month for her forthcoming memoir "107 Days."

The tour kicks off in New York City on September 24th and ends in Miami, Florida, on November 20th. She'd better hope sales for the tour and the accompanying book are hot to help offset the unexpected cost of private security she'll have to hire now.
