Grab the Popcorn: More Dem Skewering the DSA and the 'Big Tent'

The response from most Democrats to the surge by the far-left/socialist wing has largely been, "We're a big tent." Most of them seem not to have the sense that they are being taken over and/or that they are making an accommodation with it, thinking it will help them in the midterms against the Republicans.

But Democrats (beyond Sen. John Fetterman) are speaking out, nuking the big tent and pointing out the obvious: that the far left doesn't want to have a "big tent" with the centrists; they want the whole ball of wax.

My colleague Becca Lower wrote a great piece about Julian Epstein, the former chief counsel for the House Judiciary Democrats and the former staff director of the House Oversight Committee, who said he would be supporting Mike Rogers.

Epstein also added there was no room in his tent for those who "only want to redistribute what others have created and want to basically tear down the free market that has been the most effective anti-poverty liberation machine that human beings have ever invented." He also pointed out how all the Democrats were going to be held accountable for the extremism during their campaigns,  "Democrats can’t run from this lunacy in November."

He got agreement from Michael LaRosa, who used to be press secretary to Jill Biden, when the Bidens were occupying the White House. LaRosa also said he would be supporting Rogers.

Now there was more skewering of the big tent from former MSNBC host Donny Deutsch and Democrat operative James Carville. They spoke on Deutsch's podcast, On Brand. They said the main point that the Democrat leadership still doesn't seem to get: "The DSA people don't want us under the tent!"

"They don't want me, and I don't want them. So we got massive agreement here," Carville ranted.

He seemed to think this might get sorted out by 2028. But if I were to take a guess, it would be that the left would eat them even more by then, if they don't have anyone in leadership to really stop the bleeding.

Good for them for calling this out now.

The thing is, the Democrats let the monster in the house. While they have been spending the last 10 years attacking President Donald Trump, they haven't been checking the radicalism that has been taking over, with Occupy, defund the police, abolish ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement), and now the rabid anti-Israel base. It's all been building, and even the "moderate" folks are leftists when they're talking about abolishing ICE, for example, now, which seems to be a position most Democrats now hold.

This may come back to bite them in the midterms. Even Hillary Clinton is warning this may come back to bite the Democrats because the Republicans calling out the extremism is a "very effective attack."
