What Happened After House Dem Took a Stand Against Platner Says Everything About Today’s Democrat Party

Democrats are truly wallowing in a morass of extremism at this point.

RedState reported earlier on a good statement by Democrat Rep. Jake Auchincloss (MA-04) on CNN about the Democrat candidate for Senate from Maine, Graham Platner.

“I’ve been clear about Graham Platner. I find that tattoo and his commentary about it to be personally disqualifying. I hope Maine voters agree with me. I think it would be a mistake for the Democratic Party to think that Graham Platner’s brand of the Democratic Party is what wins us durable majorities throughout this country.”

Now this is a perfectly logical position that frankly every Democrat should be taking. And yet they're not. Not only aren't they taking it, but they're really mad that Auchincloss dared to say that about the party's presumptive nominee. How dare he object to a guy who had a Nazi tattoo! And let's not even mention all the other vile, problematic statements in Platner's background.

Here's a sample of some of the leftist angst against Auchincloss.

“Jake Auchincloss is essentially endorsing [GOPer] Susan Collins in Maine. Absolutely no excuse for a Democrat in the House to back a Republican for Senate in a crucial swing seat,” chided Saikat Chakrabarti, a California congressional hopeful and former chief of staff to far-left New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

Dem pollster Adam Carlson grumbled, “A smart reporter would ask Jake Auchincloss — the chairman of Majority Democrats — why he wants Trump to have a Republican Senate majority for his final two years in office.

And

Former Kamala Harris Deputy Campaign Manager Rob Flaherty sniped, “Does feel kind of odd to be the Chairman of an org called “Majority Democrats” and then endorse against both Democrats and a Majority.

Um, guys? Because sometimes principle and what's right is more important than you guys having control? And when control is your "principle," you have no principle.

Plus, Auchincloss was perhaps making an important point, as a centrist Democrat (how many of those are left?),  that they can't get "durable majorities" with such a candidate - that support of a person like Platner is going to be a problem with the American people. As it should be. It says a lot about the Democrats ripping on Auchincloss that they don't care.

There are a couple of other people running in the Democrat primary - why aren't they backing one of them? Because they don't think those folks have a chance.

Democrats think they can pick up the seat with Platner because polling has him at 7.5 percent ahead of Collins. That's what the Democrats care about.

They're likely deceiving themselves.

Notably, Collins was significantly trailing Democrat Sara Gideon by similar numbers in nearly every poll during her 2020 reelection bid but won by about 8.6 percentage points.

But now Auchincloss has issued a new statement, saying he isn't supporting Collins. He still finds Platner's tattoo and commentary personally disqualifying. And if he could vote, he'd vote for someone else in the primary.

Susan Collins is a rubber stamp for the worst admin in history. Claims that I would endorse her, implicitly or otherwise, ignore my track record supporting Democrats to take back both chambers. As I said months ago, I find Platner's Nazi tattoo and his commentary about it personally disqualifying. If it were me I'd vote for someone else in the Maine Democratic primary.

Regardless of what happens in Maine, Democrats need to take back the Senate and I'll keep working hard to make it happen.

Sounds like he's now scrambling to get right with his critics when he already was in the right on Platner - they were in the wrong. He terms Collins a "rubber stamp" for President Donald Trump, and presumably it's the Trump administration he's talking about there - both assertions being ridiculously false. But even with that, the Democrats were still going after him.

Some were pushing to primary Auchincloss, which would lead to yet another far-leftist.

Bottom line at this point? The Democrat Party is in the hands of the radicals.
