Pure Gold: Watch Starmer Concede They Finally Have to Do Something About Strait

Operation Epic Fury has been a real test of our European allies, and they largely failed it.

If they can't even let us use our shared bases in their countries or go through their airspace to deal with a terrorist country that has hurt the whole world, what are they about? As Secretary of State, Marco Rubio said, an alliance can't be a "one-way street." Then Trump also scolded them, saying maybe we should just leave and let them figure the Strait out. Both Rubio and Trump indicated that the NATO relationship would have to be re-examined.

The French Straw Just Broke NATO's Back

That's resulted in a scramble from the allies, and even from non-allies, to say that something has to be done to keep the Strait clear. Suddenly, if the U.S. says they might not be there, they realize that they have some responsibility for themselves.

The European Union Council President, António Costa, posted a statement against Iran's actions in the Strait and called for action to keep it open. You even had China and Pakistan issue a statement that it had to be kept open. That's pretty stunning from China.

But I have to say, the statement now from the U.K. Prime Minister Keir Starmer may be the best "Reality just hit me in the face" statement yet. Watch as he almost apologizes for saying they have to do something to protect their own interests as a country.

And the U.K. has now brought together 35 nations around our statement of intent to push, as one, for maritime security across the Gulf.
And today I can announce that later this week the Foreign Secretary will host a meeting that brings those nations together for the first time, where we will assess all viable diplomatic and political measures we can take to restore freedom of navigation, guarantee the safety of trapped ships and seafarers, and to resume the movement of vital commodities.
Following this meeting, we will also convene our military planner to look at how we can marshal our capabilities and make the Strait accessible and safe after the fighting has stopped.

Because I do have to level with people on this, this will not be easy.

You mean the coalition Trump called for? Now, Starmer is still pretty cowardly there when he says "after the war." But the reality is, if the U.S. leaves and it's not dealt with, it's going to adversely affect the U.K. He's been dragged — kicking and screaming — but still dragged into that realization.

It shouldn't be that hard. Iran has been behind terrorism throughout the world. They've been causing problems in the Strait for decades; it didn't just start now. It's more than time that those who use the Strait do something to rein in Iran. They can't have Iran holding them up and firing on ships, and you don't have to apologize for that action. You shouldn't have to have Trump shame you into understanding it and doing something about it.

Extra bonus points? Starmer also says later in the speech that they have to develop their own energy, not be reliant on Russia or Iran, to ensure their own security. Ya think? What a stunning revelation. That's something Trump has been saying to the Europeans for ten years now, and it's just basic common sense.
