President Donald Trump has some great picks in his Cabinet, and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent is certainly one of them. He can communicate the points that need to be made clearly, in a way that many cannot. And he's not afraid to take on the liberal media and cut them down to size, even to their faces, as he did at the New York Times DealBook Summit Wednesday.
First, Bessent told them he'd stopped reading the paper, hitting them right where they lived, because they were "just this fever swamp." Then he took on their recent Trump "fatigue" story, and just decimated that.
“You know, in twenty, thirty, forty, fifty years The New York Times is no longer the paper of record,” he predicted. “I read this article, like ‘President Trump is slowing down. President Trump’s mental capacity –’ It is a hundred percent fake. Like he only called me twice at two in the morning last week instead of three times.”
Bessent then spoke about "one of the greatest scandals of all time, the coverage of the Biden administration, Joe Biden’s diminished capacity, and the cover-up."
"Where was the New York Times?" Bessent scolded them.

For 10 MONTHS Biden did not have a cabinet meeting. How are you going to invoke the 25th Amendment if the cabinet secretaries never see the president?
The DealBook founder, Andrew Ross Sorkin, then said that's why he thought it was "fair" to bring it up. It's fair to bring it up about Trump because you dropped the ball on Biden? Trump doesn't have the issues Biden had. Tell me how that makes sense. Suddenly, they remember they're supposed to be questioning when it comes to Trump.
But Bessent brought him up short, saying that Trump just held a three-hour Cabinet meeting the day before. He then explained that Biden went ten months without holding a Cabinet meeting. "How are you going to invoke the 25th Amendment if the Cabinet secretaries never see the president?” Bessent asked.
Exactly! Biden held nine cabinet meetings in all the time he occupied the Oval Office, and only one in 2024. There were even reports that his staff was isolating him from Cabinet members. Some of the Cabinet secretaries allegedly said that they were boxed out from access to Biden in 2023 and 2024.
Meanwhile, Trump has held nine since he started his second term, doing about one a month, and they've been viewable by the public, with Trump actively leading them and even taking on the press in the process.

"I hear from people in the Treasury building that I see President Trump more in a day than my predecessor saw Joe Biden in half a year!" Bessent declared.
You have to think that the NY Times has to be feeling that burn Bessent just delivered to them at their own event. He just sunk them with a little dose of reality.
