When Joe Biden was vice president and then occupied the Oval Office, we were sold this story of the "best friends forever" relationship he supposedly had with his then-boss, Barack Obama. Biden even posted bracelets with their names on them. It was so cringeworthy, even Democratic operative David Axelrod couldn't believe it.

I don't think too many people were buying what Joe was selling. The bromance was never much of anything, or Obama wouldn't have been slow to endorse him in 2020. Then there were the reported negative comments about Biden from Obama - such as never underestimate his ability to "f**k things up."
Now there's a new report on the souring of the "bromance." Who's reporting it is interesting too.
The report is from ABC''s Jonathan Karl, who is typical liberal media, from his new book. Interesting that he's reporting it now--although, of course, it's when Biden is no longer occupying the Oval Office.
According to Karl, Biden didn't take Obama's calls before he dropped out of the race.
“Obama had been trying to get in touch with Biden for about two weeks, but his calls had not been returned,” ABC News chief Washington correspondent Jonathan Karl writes in an excerpt from his upcoming book “Retribution: Donald Trump and the Campaign That Changed America” that was published by the Dispatch on Friday and detailed the 48 hours before Biden announced he was leaving the race.
“Obama reached out again after Biden suspended his campaign, but the two men would not end up speaking until shortly before the Democratic National Convention four weeks later.”
This was after George Clooney's devastating letter that helped galvanize the call for Biden to drop out of the race. Because of Clooney's closeness to Obama, that was viewed by many as a move from Obama.
Then there was the issue that whenever Obama visited the White House, he tended to upstage Biden.

“Obama caused tension when he would visit the White House because he operated as if he still ran it,” a Biden White House official told The Post.
“He made Biden feel secondary in the room even when staffers were present.”
Biden also refused calls from Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), which we've reported before.
Karl also notes that Kamala Harris didn't call members of Congress after Biden's debate to support him staying in the race.
“Calls to lawmakers, Harris believed, could be misinterpreted as the early stages of an effort to secure the nomination for herself. If she called Democratic members, those members could later disclose that they had spoken to her and misrepresent the purpose of the call.”
That doesn't sound like much of an excuse. If anything, not calling would look like she was not supportive, and looking out for herself.

But when Biden did decide to drop out, Harris was all over him to endorse her quickly to prevent anyone else from getting in, according to Karl.
“It needed to come immediately,” Karl writes of the then-veep’s insistence. “Otherwise, she argued, Biden would be opening the door to an ugly fight for the nomination.”
Translation: they would have opened it up to someone who wasn't handed the nomination, and might have gotten someone who would have done better than Harris.
